My Mother’s Kitchen

A Poem

Rebeca Ansar
Oct 28, 2019 · 1 min read

the kitchen is noisy
with the music of food

sizzle of onions
tapping of spoons

ginger and garlic
prance about the pan
dance to notes of a name
land and ocean away

my mouth waters as
you bring me a plate

I gulp the scent and
savor the taste and
swallow the memory
of an inherited place.
