what they don’t tell you

a poem

Photo by Kunj Parekh on Unsplash

what they don’t tell you is this
your life begins to take its shape
much sooner than you would expect

the outlines are thicker
in some places sharp fences

it can get ugly
cutting the tender flesh
of your palms against the picket
trying to tear it all apart.
