Awake, Waiting

Why do we only see God after He’s gone
Why perceive Him only when He’s done
Why sleep deeply all through the night
Only to wake to learn the Lord was there

Why return from a journey before we learn
How do we walk past the house of God
And pitch a tent without ever realizing
That we are right before Heaven’s gate

Does the night have to bury the day
And the heavens have to rend the veil
Did you have to break the bread
Before we know this indeed is the Christ

Awake my soul while the Heaven is open
Behold the Christ while my heart is burning
Follow, my feet, while the Lord is leading
Be still, my soul, while the Lord is speaking

Our greatest days cannot be yesterdays
Our biggest joys cannot be memorials
Our strongest lessons cannot be regrets
The fullness of joy resides in your presence

Faith is here and now, not in the past
We should not always point back in time
We should not always refer to the past
Especially when people seek for an answer

You’re the same God who is, that was
I’ll hang on, stay on, keep watching
I’ll press in, tarry, my head between my knee
I want to live in the moment with you

I don’t just want to look back always to learn
How I may have done things even better
I want to look ahead, see you and walk
In the light of your countenance

I want to see the path you have cut
I want to see the plans you have drawn
I want to see the things you have ordained
Let this hope be an anchor for my soul

Let your light guide my walk toward you
I don’t want to be asleep when you come
I don’t just want to wake up when it is dawn
I want to be awake, ready when you show up

Merizo

Merizo (gk: divide, apportion inheritance). We learn, live and love by truth. The word of God is quick and powerful. It is sharper than any two-edged sword. It can divide and distinguish between soul and spirit; good and God. It can apportion an inheritance for us in His will.
