Get to know the team at MERJ Exchange — starting with Brenda Bastienne, MERJ’s Head of Market Regulation.

Brenda began her career at the Policy and Strategy Division of the Ministry of Finance of Seychelles upon completion of her Degree from The Manchester University in 2006. She was part of the team involved in the Seychelles’ Macro-Economic Reform in 2008 which saw the introduction of new legislation and institutions. In 2011 and 2012 she completed both a Graduate Diploma in Public Administration (2011) and a master’s degree in Public Policy specializing in Policy Analysis (2012). In 2013 she was appointed Director General of the Policy and Strategy Division at the Ministry of Finance and Trade — the Division responsible for reviewing and implementing fiscal policies linked to the Government’s budgetary framework.

Brenda joined MERJ Exchange in January 2016 as the Head of Market Regulation. Brenda’s primary responsibility is to maintain the integrity of the market in line with the local legal and regulatory framework, exchange rules and listing requirements, through effective market supervision and compliance. She works closely with local and international regulators and businesses to define strategy aligned to international standards and industry best practice for a robust securities exchange capable of coping in a changing market environment. Brenda also chairs the Listing Committee of MERJ Exchange which is responsible for admitting new securities to the Official List of securities. As a member of the Executive Committee, Brenda also contributes to the overall strategy of the company and provides valuable input as to its direction

Brenda was appointed in January 2018 as a non-executive Chairperson of the Board of the Development Bank of Seychelles. She is also a member of the Golden Key International Society and a Professional Member (MICA) of the International Compliance Association.

Brenda is Seychellois and is based in the Seychelles. She speaks fluent French and English and is an avid fan of Chelsea Football Club.
