Rehearsals underway for SLU fall play, The Government Inspector

The cast and creative team of Saint Louis University’s production of The Government Inspector have been hard at work for several weeks now in preparation for their opening night in early October.

The actors meet in the Xavier Hall auditorium for all their rehearsals. This is the same space they will perform the show. Photo taken Sept. 27, 2022.
The stage management team is highly integral to the rehearsal process. SLU stage managers are always students, which gives them first hand experience. Here, assistant stage manager Colleen Dundon (right) talks to actor Grace Wallis (left) about the schedule for rehearsal. Photo taken Sept. 27, 2022.
When actors are not on stage working with the director, they rehearse by themselves. Here, actor Lauren Tubbe reviews her lines before going on stage. Photo taken Sept. 27, 2022.
One of the stage manager’s main duties is being in charge of all logistics. During rehearsal, they also take notes and assist the director. Here, stage manager Paige Payne makes notes in the script of all the actor’s movements while the director works with the actors.
Actor Rose Reiker waits in the wings to enter during the next scene. While backstage, actors still have to pay attention to the director and the scene being rehearsed. Photo taken Sept. 27, 2022.
Rehearsal is a chance for the actors to work closely with the director and refine the acting and movement for each character. Director Lucy Cashion (right) works with actors Allie Thornton (left) and Rose Reiker (middle) on a scene. Photo taken Sept. 27, 2022.
Rehearsals are a group effort. Everyone learns to be patient and attentive in order for everything to go smoothly. Photo taken Sept. 27, 2022.
Technical elements of the production are equally as important as the actors. Backstage, lighting equipment is being organized to be set up soon. Photo taken Sept. 27, 2022.
While the actors are working with the director, sound designer and assistant director Abby Bottleson puts together a list of sound cues for the production. Photo taken Sept. 27, 2022.
SLU’s production of The Government Inspector runs from Oct. 6-Oct. 9 in the Xavier Hall auditorium. Tickets can be purchased online or at the box office up to two hours before the show begins. Come see all the hard work of the theatre students pay off. Photo taken Sept. 27, 2022.
