We are proud to announce that MessageBird is amongst 10 companies chosen by Google to release and implement their new RCS (Rich Communication Services) platform.

An upcoming rival for iMessage and other chat platforms, RCS provides a universal standard for rich media capabilities for SMS messaging (such as high-res photo sharing, large file sharing, group messaging, video calling, read receipts and more). After decades of SMS content being limited to plain text, this is a huge step forward for SMS technology, and we are at the very frontline of this shift. Learn more about the next generation of SMS.

As one of our first pilot customers, Amber Alert will use RCS to share pictures of missing children to message recipients and thus further strengthen the effectivity of their platform. We proudly support their cause and hope this initiative will keep more children safe from harm.

“We are thrilled to take part in this global technological advancement. RCS is the future of SMS technology, and we’re excited to see where it takes us.” — Robert Vis, Founder & CEO at MessageBird

Google’s choice to include us in their RCS release comes on the heels of our rapid penetration into the U.S. market and the opening of our freshly minted San Francisco office earlier this month.

With these exciting developments at hand, we’re off to Barcelona for the week to attend Mobile World Congress. Join us if you’re there and find out what’s next for MessageBird!
