[ThreeJS]Why trying to use ThreeJS to show the 3D Model in web browser

For easy showing the idea to the client, 3D model is a great aid for the project presentation.

I am an engineer(?) in the construction field, find that using 3D model for the presentation on paper-base proposals, animation-simulation also share the 3d models with other parties is a great way to show my idea and already use for over 20 years.

In the past, plans, elevations, sections are prepared in the CAD software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp and export to pdf or printed to A3 / A2 paper are the normal ways for present to other parties. Then, start from about 2004, building the 3D model of the project with different natures of the drawings (such as architectural, structural, drainage…) and checking the discrepancies is found useful and reduce the time and abortive works.

Then, for some big projects, such as a domestic building over four railway, cutting sections to show different stages of the project is seem not simple enough for let every parties to understand. For that, some 3D simulation are made to present the procedures and different stages also some critical views of the project for showing the work and sequence for present to every parties.

As the processing power of laptop increase, sometime the 3d model will present and amended during the meeting with the CAD software installed in the laptop, and finalized 3D model will share for every parties. But, although the major CAD being use is AutoCAD and SketchUp, the files shall be convert before sharing if some parties only use either of two or neither…. export to OBJ/DXF/DAE…. seem is not good.

Around 3~5 years ago, the ThreeJS is introduced to me from the path of learning Bender3D, but, the lack of knowledge about the programming language, try try and put it down.

Few months ago, many of short clip / video about ThreeJS were suggested to me at YouTube, and the construction project is just completed, I try to watch the tutorial video and pick the ThreeJS again!

Around three months had been spent, the basic of the basic concept is finally learnt, and the 3D model built from SketchUp is finally can be display on the browser from the webpage at my private web server!
