Any cursory search for the word “dabbler” will reveal predominantly negative connotations of it:

As far as I can remember, I had many interests — music, drawing, comics, psychology, philosophy, biology, math, physics, chess, writing, poetry, painting, tennis, and many, many more. Although normal for a child or a teenager, it’s somewhat unusual for an adult to have that many interests.

Dabblers are great people. They are positive, full of exuberance, informed, intelligent, great listeners. Above all, they have many interests. If they’re fortunate enough, they can pick one to be their profession, and relegate other interests to hobbies. If they are not, they can spend a lifetime not finding their “true vocation”, “true calling”. They often switch careers on a fly and could be deemed as courageous for doing that.

We all may think that we are this “Renesainse Man”, since we have so many interests. Well, the proof is in the pudding, as the saying goes: what do you have to show for it?
