One of the best parts about MetaMedia is that the space gives Makers the opportunity and the resources to explore what they’re interested in.

For one particular Maker, who loves animals, that means using the 3D printer, wire and a variety of other materials, such as tape, pipe cleaners and paint to create his own creatures.

The Maker’s miniature mountain goat poses for a photoshoot.
A spider made out of wire and pipe cleaners.

So far, he’s already completed a few miniature goats and a terrifying tarantula, but now he’s on to bigger and better things at MetaMedia. After excitedly watching a number of gory videos of komodo dragons stalking their prey, he decided to create a much more sizable replica of his new favorite animal. Once he finishes twisting and forming the wire skeleton, which is several feet long (!), he’ll cover it with tape then paint it gray.

The Maker creates the framework for his next masterpiece — a komodo dragon.

This Maker even suggested turning his hobby into a DIY challenge, which other Makers can complete to earn wristbands that grant them access to the rest of the YMCA.

There’s nothing better than seeing a Maker want to share his interests and passions with his peers. I can’t wait until MetaMedia has its very own zoo!
