Makers Don’t Just Watch Movies; They Produce Them

Makers act very professional as they interview a YMCA resident for an important video.

One of MetaMedia’s main goals is to get its Makers to tackle real-world problems and become media producers. Today, several sixth grade girls did just that.

One of the McGaw YMCA’s funders asked us to create a video about the impact a grant has had on helping resident members gain access to health care. The Makers, who just started to come to MetaMedia, were quickly engaged! They decided to help produce the video by conducting and filming an interview with a YMCA resident about accessibility to health care.

Each Maker took on an important role — script-writer, interviewer and videographer.

A Maker films the interview, getting different angles and shots for the video.

Some of the questions the girls came up with were “What kind of support did you receive from the YMCA staff?” and “If you could put all of your emotions into one word, what would it be?” According to the girls, the seven minute-long interview went off without a hitch.

The interviewer asks her thoughtful questions as the resident listens closely and prep.

The Makers had never really done anything like this before, besides some prior camerawork, but they threw themselves into the project with unparalleled enthusiasm, even staying after the interview had finished to edit the video and make it perfect.

By accepting this big responsibility and collaborating to really knock it out of the park, these Makers embodied exactly what MetaMedia stands for.
