So we’ve made it to the halfway point! Welcome to the Dragon Quest halftime show 🎊

Since our last update, there’s been a flurry of action in every direction. More bounties are live, squads have been formed, and hacks are well and truly under way!

The world is looking completely different to how it did when we first began planning this hackathon, and different even than two weeks ago when we kicked off. But within every cloud there’s a silver lining, and a pretty prominent one for us is that being stuck at home means that we have moretime to work on projects that exist in the digital realm, with teammates from all over the world, collaborating through zoom calls and discord channels.

As of the 15th of April, we have 25 squads up and running via Discord & F12, and the squad channels are buzzing with excitement and productivity! We’ve also heard of a number of non-DAOified squads and individuals hacking away — friendly reminder for those folks to get your squad up and running as you’ll need it to submit your work at the end of the month. As always, help with setting up and operating squads can be found in the #Fantastic12 channel on the Dragon Quest Discord.

Our sponsors really came through in the days leading up to kick off 🥳 we now have 20 sponsors with a combined 27 bounties live on Bounties.Network! There’s over $15k+ DAI up for grabs through bounties on top of the $7k DAI in prize money, so make sure to submit your bounty hacks and grab your slice of that delicious pie! 🥧💸

You still have time to get involved! We still have two weeks which is over 5x the usual hackathon time frame so jump into the Discord, check out bounties on listed below, form/join a squad on Discord and hack away:

One aspect of the hackathon we’re really excited about is the appearance of DAO sponsored bounties! We have live bounties from four different DAOs in a variety of technical and non-technical areas which shows that we’re now living in the DAOified world that we’re all striving for.

Big props to MetaGame, Raid Guild, HelpDAO, LexDAO and EstoniaDAO for coming through with the goods!

One of the things we’re really pushing on as we run the Dragon Quest is the idea of a hackathon which isn’t purely focused on the technical stuff. We want to allow anyone from any background to get involved so it’s awesome to see not only a number of non-technical bounties, but also a number of squads working on projects which don’t necessarily revolve around the development of code & smart contracts.

Creative bounties from 1UP, MetaGame, Raid Guild & Sablier 🎨

We have quite a few Squads working on Corona Virus response tooling such as #HelpDAO, and #Collab-10, and #Meta_Gamma_Delta working on #Favela_Sem_Corona, a platform for people living in Brazilian Favelas to get support during the COVID-19 pandemic. Communities which are under-banked and under-represented are often at the most risk in situations like this so it’s amazing to see this initiative coming from the Ethereum community!

We also have the #Endaoment squad working on a no-loss DAO which directs the interest earned on DAO-held funds towards social causes that the members propose and vote on.

Community Calls

In true Dragon Quest style 🐉 a number of virtual learning sessions have been taking place (and are still to come!) on The Pepo Dragon Quest community. Providing as much support for hackers as possible has been a core focus for us so it’s amazing to see our sponsors getting so involved and breaking down their bounties to make them more accessible to hackers.

Upcoming virtual sessions happening this week 📹

  • Ocean Protocol 4/15 | 6 pm CEST/ 9am PST on Crowdcast.
  • 3Box 4/15 | 7pm CET/ 10am PST on Pepo.
  • Pocket 4/16 | 6pm CEST / 9am PST on Pepo.
  • Aave 4/17 | 6pm CEST / 9am PST on Pepo.

And last but not least we’ve teamed up with POAP to create some AWESOME badges for our attendees, here’s a sneak peak at the hacker badges that will be given to all the completed hackathon participants 😱

So that’s about it for our halftime show! We’d like to give a huge shout out to all of our sponsors, they’ve really got behind us on this one and have been amazing helping out hackers in their sponsor channels on Discord, through live help sessions and countless DMs!

See you all at the finish line, don’t forget to stay at home and maintain social distance for everyone’s sake!
