In a world of central services, why opt to decentralize at all?

MetaCert’s entire focus is protecting the community, which is why we keep our ears open and always welcome feedback and discussion. It’s one of the reasons our Telegram group of nearly 10,000 members is one of the most positive and uplifting communities in the cryptospace.

Recently we got some feedback regarding decentralization. Specifically, we were told:

“Our due diligence team doesn’t think MetaCert has a good use for decentralization on the blockchain.”

Our goal is to decentralize trust and reputation for uniform resource identifiers (URIs) on the web with the MetaCert Protocol. Why are we driven to do this? The answer is simple. Central authorities in charge of reputation classification have already been in use for years and the sad truth is they have failed the public in a major way. Rather than rely on a single point of failure, the MetaCert Protocol will be supported by the same community it protects. You can find out more about the MetaCert Protocol in our white paper and technical paper.

Think about it. Would you build a bridge with a single support pillar? The answer is no. By utilizing numerous points of credibility, gauged by individual merit and expertise, while incentivizing the community to act benevolently with a tokenized protocol, we believe it is possible to create a safer, more trustworthy internet experience for everyone. This is the very essence behind decentralization; removing a single point of failure by distributing the system.

We’ve been busy building products to prove the efficacy of our system. Some of the proven technology we’ve built using the MetaCert Protocol are quickly becoming household names for the cryptocurrency ecosystem. Cryptonite, the browser add-on for Chrome, Firefox, and Opera is custom tailored to block phishing sites while showing users that sites and social media accounts associated with cryptocurrencies are in the clear with a green indicator. If the shield doesn’t turn green, you shouldn’t click. Cryptonite easily thwarts fake wallet provider sites, such as the hundreds that crop up impersonating MyCrypto every day.

Cryptonite isn’t alone. MetaCert’s suite of security tools also includes enterprise grade security solutions for Slack based communities, as well as the MetaCert Bot for Telegram. Our Slack tool continues to analyze links and protect messages; the current count is over 1,167,116,220 messages and 15,448,700 links analyzed instantly and counting! In the meantime, our Telegram bot is protecting over 800,000 users in over 800 groups from malicious links and cryptocurrency addresses and we expect that number to continue to grow.

What do you think? Should we decentralize trust and reputation so it’s no longer in the hands of centralized security companies?

Answer the poll while there’s still time, and leave your comments below.

The MetaCert Protocol is a trust and reputation threat intelligence system for verifying web resources. It addresses a number of attack vectors, encompassing solutions for anti-phishing, child safety, brand protection, crypto-address verification, and news credibility. Find out more about the MetaCert Protocol, ask questions, and leave suggestions on both our White Paper and Technical Paper. You can also join our Telegram community to stay up to date on our blockchain project. Remember to install Cryptonite to protect yourself from phishing scams before it’s too late.
