Cybersecurity is an issue fast encroaching our daily lives as we more heavily come to rely upon technology.

We might not have reached the theatric WATCH_DOGS level of hacking where waving a cell phone around can short circuit a cityscape, but in this day and age the idea of being able to use non-sophisticated tools to access sensitive data has fast become a reality.

Our modern world of information exchange is host to a new generation of hacking tools, designed to lower the bar for entry so inexperienced malicious actors can exploit users with greater ease.

One of those tools helps scammers generate phishing websites with ease. Discovered by researchers at Check Point and CyberInt, the “[A]pache” phishing kit enables malicious actors to easily create imposter sites by copying and then pasting the targeted vendor’s URL into its interface. No coding required.

A phisher operating such a site might offer savings, enticing clicks by altering prices to show a great deal for sought after products under the banner of a well known brand. When it’s time to checkout, instead of the sale going smoothly the transaction is designed to fail, so it makes sense when the goods never arrive. Meanwhile all the sensitive data related to the attempted purchase goes to the scammer.

At MetaCert we take threats like these seriously, and build tools to protect you like the Cryptonite browser extension powered by the MetaCert Protocol. It detects phishing sites, and alerts you to verified internet resources, so as fast as phishers set up fake sites, Cryptonite bats them down and keeps you safe.

Hackers are building their tools with the latest tech available and MetaCert is engineering security solutions the same way.

You can find out more about the MetaCert Protocol by joining our Telegram community to stay up to date on our blockchain project. Remember to install Cryptonite, to protect yourself from phishing scams before it’s too late.
