Social media platforms are rampant with malicious actors, and recently on Facebook, a false Tokes Platform page has cropped up, inviting visitors to visit a site that phishes their information.

Both the malicious Facebook group and the phishing site were reported and classified by the MetaCert Protocol after community member and Junior Social Media Marketing Assistant with Tokes Platform, Steven Atchinson pointed them out to us via our Slack channel. The offending Facebook group apparently sent a direct message on Facebook to the official Tokes Platform, advertising a fake airdrop with a link to a phishing site that asks for seed information in exchange for a prize. Bad move.

Don’t fall for it if you receive a message like this!

A little investigation into the matter reveals a sustained attack on Facebook has been waged against Tokes Platform by the malicious account. The phishing posts have seemingly random photos attached to them and entice users with the following pitch:

“Great news, Get Extra Bonus 100%!

Congratulations!

You are one active users who are lucky to get 1,000 Tokes (TKS).

Thanks to Steven for reporting the attack! Because of his efforts, we’ve been able to ensure that users who have installed the Cryptonite browser extension, powered by the MetaCert Protocol, see a warning screen when visiting the malicious site. That just goes to display that Cryptonite represents more than just a browser plugin: it’s a community effort in the ongoing fight against phishing.

Cryptocurrency users and Tokes Platform community members are reminded to beware any direct messages on Facebook offering an airdrop.
