Matthew Schutte prepares to hold his breath on a 30 foot wave at Mavericks

Talking “tools” with the founders of Wired Magazine and Boing Boing

Kevin Kelly (co-founder of Wired Magazine) and Mark Frauenfelder (co-founder of Boing Boing) have a playful little podcast called “Cool Tools” that is focused on… well… tools. Recently, they invited me onto the show and we chatted about four tools that I have found useful in my work and play as a:

  1. a big wave surfer (tool: breath hold trainer app)
  2. a privacy advocate (tool: coherence layers)
  3. a political philosopher (tool: pain as a prioritization tool) and
  4. an innovation consultant (tool: check-ins and check-outs)

The breath hold stuff is fun, but probably not super relevant to the metacurrency project. However, the exploration of coherence layers, pain, and check-ins/outs might help clarify some of the unusual ways our team thinks about the world. That deep dive starts at about 9:15.
