Metadium’s ecosystem continues to grow. This time we are happy to announce our most recent partnership with ES Energía, a global company developing renewable energy products and solutions with over twenty years of experience across different markets.

Partnering with ES Energía gives us access to its existing SE Asia and Latin America network, opening new opportunities to provide Metadium blockchain technology to new users. The two companies are looking to develop a new project in the Indonesian market and expect to continue expanding their cooperation into other countries. Their goal is to implement Metadium’s DID technology to provide millions of Indonesians with easy and safe identification and authentication.

The Indonesian Identity Market Prospect

Indonesia has the right environment and international support to develop blockchain-based identification services. The country recently received US$250 million in funding from the World Bank Group’s International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) to strengthen the country’s civil registration and increase the implementation of, but not limited to, biometric digital identification to access public and private services, as stated in the “ID for Inclusive Service Delivery and Digital Transformation in Indonesia” report.

Indonesia has 97% coverage of the national ID (NIK) and e-KTP, and 88.4% of those aged 17 and under have birth certificates. The country is also the fifth most internet-engaged country in the world after the Philippines, Brazil, Thailand, and Colombia. The percentage of households online doubled from 42% to 82% between 2015 and 2021. The rural-urban access gap was shortened from 30% to 15%, and the average Indonesian internet user is online for more than eight hours a day, the ninth longest in the world.

“These high rates of use highlight the potential user base for a digital ID for online transactions,” states the report, as the trend of increasing penetration and falling internet inequality “creates a key enabling environment for reducing inequities in access to services and economic opportunities through increased online transactions with the public and private sectors.”

The development pursued by the World Bank Group’s project would allow Indonesian authorities to facilitate users to perform digital onboarding, including, but not limited to, biometric authentication allowing cheaper access to services whether in person or non-face-to-face.

인도네시아 신원 증명 시장 전망

인도네시아는 블록체인 기반 신원 증명 서비스를 개발하기에 적합한 환경과 국제적 지원을 받고 있다. “ID for Inclusive Service Delivery and Digital Transformation in Indonesia(인도네시아의 포괄적 서비스 제공 및 디지털 전환을 위한 ID)” 보고서에 따르면, 인도네시아는 최근 세계은행그룹의 국제부흥개발은행(IBRD: International Bank for Reconstruction and Development)으로부터 국가의 시민 등록을 강화하고 공공 및 민간 서비스를 이용하기 위한 생체 디지털 신원 증명의 구현을 증가시키기 위해 미화 2억 5천만 달러의 자금을 지원 받았다.

인도네시아 인구의 97%는 인구식별번호(NIK)와 e-KTP를 보유하고 있으며, 17세 이하 인구의 88.4%가 출생증명서를 가지고 있다. 또한 인도네시아는 필리핀, 브라질, 태국, 콜롬비아 다음으로 세계에서 다섯 번째로 인터넷에 많이 접속하는 나라이다. 인터넷에 접속 가능한 온라인 가구의 비율은 2015년부터 2021년까지 42%에서 82%로 두 배 증가했다. 시골과 도시의 접속 격차는 30%에서 15%로 줄었고, 인도네시아의 평균 인터넷 사용자는 하루에 8시간 이상 온라인 상태로 세계에서 9번째로 길다.

보고서는 “이러한 높은 인터넷 사용률은 온라인 트랜잭션을 위한 디지털 ID의 잠재적인 사용자 기반을 강조한다”며, 인터넷 보급률이 증가하고 불평등이 감소하는 추세는 “공공 및 민간 부문과의 온라인 트랜잭션 증가를 통해 서비스 및 경제적 기회에 대한 접근의 불평등을 줄일 수 있는 핵심 환경을 조성한다”고 설명한다.

세계은행그룹의 프로젝트가 추구하는 개발은 인도네시아 당국이 생체 인증에 국한되지 않고 사용자들이 대면 또는 비대면으로 서비스에 더 저렴하게 접근할 수 있도록 하는 디지털 온보딩을 용이하게 할 것이다.
