Metadium Service highlight: B PASS and the Public Safety Report

Dear Metadium community,

Our technology is trusted by multiple private and public institutions and, as a result, it is being used to provide a wide array of services, some well known and others not so much. Because of this, we are launching a series of articles to bring light to our services, specially those less known.

Let’s start with B PASS and the Public Safety Report. These are the two main services provided to Busan, South Korea’s second largest city with over 3.4 million citizens. Metadium’s relation with Busan City started in 2019 with the designation of the Blockchain Regulation-free Zone and the resulting development and constant improvement of the aforementioned services.

With Metadium blockchain technology, the user’s personal data is encrypted and stored directly in the user’s mobile device, instead of a centralized database. Due to the nature of the technology, data records can’t be tampered with and security risks like hacking or theft are eliminated.

B PASS

B PASS is Busan’s DID-based mobile identification card integrated with a variety of public and private services such as the citizen card, public libraries, tours, maternity health cards, and digital vouchers. Among the other services integrated in B PASS are:

Mobile transportation card

With the use of non-face-to-face identity authentication technology, users are able to issue and customize their transportation cards without the need to provide any personal information to third parties. The B PASS-integrated transportation card works in subway rides, buses and taxis.

Unmanned convenience store access

B PASS-integrated access card for Busan’s unmanned GS25 convenience stores, the leading convenience store chain in South Korea.

Customers can access unmanned stores without the need to provide any personal information to third parties. The application of Metadium DID technology eliminates the risk of information leakage by delivering the identity verification through a QR code.

Government24-linked storage

The Government24 portal issues over 100 different types of certificates and, through this integration, users are able to store them in an electronic wallet in the B PASS app. Users can access the acquired certificates at any time and submit them online to different institutions (businesses/agencies/insurance companies, etc). This also reduces the big amount of paper normally used for different kinds or processes.

COVID-19 Vaccination Certification Service

With the integration of the COVID-19 Vaccination Certification Service into B PASS, users can receive and store proof of their vaccination status in their mobile app. These certificates can be accessed whenever they are requested and are simple to use: individuals only need to show a QR code in their mobile device.

The Public Safety Report

The Public Safety Report app is a secure and transparent data sharing platform that promotes citizens’ participation in the community’s safety improvement. With the Public Safety Report, users can relay information regardless of time and location with DID authentication, this ensures the anonymity of the informants and data reliability, while using a reward system to encourage citizens’ participation in the reports.

There are two types of reports within the app:

Regular Report: Citizens can report an accident, public inconveniences or a natural disaster to the appropriate public facility.
Mission Report: Public facilities launch missions with the intention of getting information to increase safety and prevent accidents. They can be a general mission, a location verification or a survey mission. With this kind of report, participants get rewards that can be exchanged with the Busan Digital Voucher.

메타디움 기술은 여러 민간 및 공공 기관으로부터 신뢰를 받고 있습니다. 메타디움 기술을 활용한 서비스는 대중에게 잘 알려져 있는 서비스도 있지만 일부 낯선 서비스도 있는데요. 그래서 이런 서비스를 안내하고 여러분이 실생활에서 경험하실 수 있도록 소개해드리려 합니다.

이번 글에서는 메타디움 블록체인 플랫폼 기반 탈중앙화 서비스인 비패스와 시민안전제보에 대해 다루고자 합니다. 부산 블록체인 규제자유특구 사업에 일환으로 진행된 두 서비스는 2020년 론칭 이후 2년간 큰 오류없이 안정적으로 운영되고 있는 메타디움 플랫폼 기반 서비스 입니다.

블록체인 통합 서비스 비패스 (B PASS)

비패스는 부산 시민들이 비대면으로 빠르고 편리하게 다양한 인증서를 발급받고 제출 가능한 생활밀착형 블록체인 통합 신원증명 서비스입니다. 퍼블릭 블록체인 메타디움 DID*를 기반으로 하여 부산의 다양한 공공서비스와 규제자유특구 혁신사업들을 안전하게 이용할 수 있으며 유연한 서비스 연계 및 확장이 가능합니다.

비패스에서 제공되는 주요 서비스는 아래와 같습니다.

1. 신원증명 서비스: 부산시민카드, 도서관 회원증, 모바일 가족사랑카드, 해운대구민 카드 등을 비대면으로 발급받아 사용 가능합니다. 또한, 블록체인 DID 기반의 비대면 신원인증을 적용하여 별도의 회원가입 또는 신용카드 정보 등 추가 개인정보 제공 없이 B PASS 앱으로 무인편의점을 이용(출입QR 활용)할 수 있습니다. (GS 야간 무인 운영점, CU 무인편의점 일부 지점 이용 가능)

2. B PASS 교통카드 : 블록체인 통합 서비스 B PASS 앱에서 이용 가능한 선불형 모바일 교통카드 서비스입니다. 퍼블릭 블록체인 메타디움 DID 기반 비대면 신원인증 통해 개별 맞춤형 모바일 교통카드를 발급받고, 수요자별(청소년/다자녀/어르신) 대중교통 할인 혜택을 이용할 수 있습니다. DID 기술 적용으로 필요한 정보만으로 신원확인을 진행하여 편리성 및 신뢰성을 확보하였으며, 실물 교통카드 분실, 대중교통의 부정사용과 무임승차 등에 대한 문제점을 해결했습니다.

3. 정부24 연계 전자문서지갑 : 정부 24앱에서 발급받은 주민등록등·초본, 사업자등록증명서, 건강보험자격확인(통보)서, 장애인증명서, 고용보험료·산재보험료 완납증명원, 소득금액증명 등 주요 전자증명서 100종을 저장하고 필요 시 언제든지 조회 및 제출할 수 있는 서비스입니다. 특히 전자증명서외에도 코로나 19 전자예방접종증명서를 조회하여 QR코드로 제출할 수 있습니다. (‘22년 3월이후 정부 방역패스 시행이 중단됨에 따라 해당 서비스도 종료)

해당 앱에서 사용하는 DID(분산ID)는 아래 서비스 플로우에 따라 메타디움 퍼블릭 체인의 DID 컨트랙트를 통해서 발급, 조회, 검증의 역할을 수행합니다.

*DID(Decentralized Identify, 분산신원인증)란? : 블록체인을 기반으로 한 신원인증 기술로 개인이 자신의 개인정보를 관리하고 통제할 수 있도록 하는 디지털화된 신원관리 체계

시민안전제보

블록체인 기반 시민안전제보 서비스는 미션 제보와 참여 리워드를 제공하는 시민 참여형 서비스로 블록체인 DID 기술을 적용하여 제보자의 익명성을 보장하고 데이터 신뢰성을 높였습니다. 별도 회원가입 절차 없이 퍼블릭 블록체인 메타디움 기반 비패스 앱과 연계되어 편리하고 안전하게 서비스를 사용할 수 있습니다.

시민안전제보에서는 두가지 제보 유형이 있습니다.

1. 상시 제보: 시간 및 장소에 구애 받지않고 재난 및 사고 사항 및 공공시설에 대한 불편 사항을 신속하게 제보 가능합니다.

2. 안전미션제보

일반(미션)형 : 생성된 안전 미션에 따라 제보 가능합니다.
위치 검증형 제보 : 지정된 위치에서만 제보 가능한 안전 미션 유형입니다.
설문형 제보 : 객관식 혹은 주관식으로 구성된 안전 미션설문에 참여 가능합니다.

- 개인정보 보안 UP : 비패스 활용한 DID 로그인으로 제보자 익명성 보장

- 데이터 신뢰성 확보 : 제보영상 및 위치정보 등을 블록체인 상에 저장하여 제보 데이터의 위변조 방지

- 편리한 사용성 & 리워드 제공 : 복잡한 제보절차 간소화, 미션 참여 시 리워드 제공
