Technical Update: Metadium Mainnet Hard Fork
Greeting Metadians,
Just a little over a month ago we announced the implementation of technical updates related to the Berlin and London Hard Fork’s EIPs in our testnet and we are now happy to inform our community that those changes have been reflected in a predetermined block on the Metadium mainnet.
Hard Fork key details:
- The fixed mainnet block number for this transition is: #51960000
- The expected date of implementation is: 2022–11–07
Why a hard fork?
A hard fork is a permanent update to the blockchain network’s code that breaks compatibility with previous nodes. There are many benefits for doing a hard fork: it can solve security issues, provide upgrades to the performance of a blockchain network, and it also enhances the ecosystem of digital assets.
In the case of Metadium’s hard fork, it has the purpose of increasing the compatibility with EVM’s latest version and providing greater support for our growing ecosystem of partners and clients.
For reference, these are the updates applied to the Metadium mainnet:
Berlin Fork EIPs
- EIP-2929: gas cost increases for state access opcodes
- EIP-2315: simple subroutines for the EVM
- EIP-2565: modexp precompile gas cost changes
- EIP-2718: typed transaction envelope EIP-2930: access list transactions
London Fork EIPs
- EIP-1559: Fee market change for ETH 1.0 chain
- EIP-3198: BASEFEE opcode
- EIP-3529: Reduction in refunds
- EIP-3541: Reject new contracts starting with the 0xEF byte
