Fashion is another form of expression to showcase our individuality. Within metaverses, avatars express the same uniqueness through digital clothes, by becoming an extension of our physical selves.

NFT Wearables

The power of the metaverse allows creators to explore possibilities that would not be possible in the physical world. Imagine wearables made out of stone, copper, or even glass! Metaverse creativity has no limits or constraints, with every fashion possibility accessible to create and explore.

NFT wearables open a whole new world for users, though digital fashion/wearables are not a modern phenomenon. For decades, players’ wearables and accessories would be locked within the game company mechanics, offering zero use case to players outside the game. The companies behind games will forever own these digital assets. The main benefit of creating NFTs as wearables is allowing players to have legitimate ownership of their assets, bringing in new possibilities from the old tradition.

Metaverses

Over the last few years, many metaverses have sprung to life for players to explore! To understand NFT wearables, you need to know the platforms integrating them. Let’s look at some biggest Web3 metaverses available!

Decentraland

Decentraland is the most used crypto metaverse, which launched in February 2020. Players can enjoy different activities such as poker, mini golf, and much more! Users can also enjoy various activities/events on virtual plots of land, which can be purchased with the MANA token.

Sandbox

Sandbox is another of the top metaverses where players can purchase virtual land and create whatever they desire on it. From games to art galleries, there are no creative limitations! Sandbox focuses on developers and game creators, making sure the users are the driving force of the ecosystem.

Cryptovoxels

As the name suggests, this metaverse is made of voxels, which are 3D pixels made from cubes. Due to the nature of the world, it’s not as demanding on your chosen device, so it is a great starting option if you’re looking to start exploring metaverses.

Somnium Space

Somnium Space has a concept similar to other metaverses, except you cannot purchase single-item wearables. Players can only buy whole avatars that come with them using their cryptocurrency CUBE. The project is also available through a VR headset, so players can fully immerse themselves in the open world.

What’s all the Hype About?

Over the past year, several high-profile brands have stepped into the NFT wearable game. Some examples include:

Nike — After filing for several metaverse trademark applications, Nike acquired virtual shoe company RTFKT Studios, creating CryptoKicks, which are selling for as much as $100,000.

Dolce & Gabbana — Teaming up with UNXD created NFT wearables ‘Collezione Genesi.’ The 9-piece collection set a record with $6 million in sales, with their glass suit bringing in over $1 million.

Burberry — Teaming up with Blankos Block Party, the Sharky B NFT characters made for the game came with wearable NFTs, including pool shoes, armbands, and jetpacks. The NFT drop sold out in about 30 seconds, generating $375,000 in sales.

Fashion in the digital world has grown considerably this year, leading to the first Metaverse Fashion Week in Decentraland! The event included brands such as Philip Plein, Selfridges & Jacob & Co. Decentraland’s fashion week was viewed by 108,000 people, showing a glimpse of a promising future for the world of NFT wearables.

Benefits of NFT Wearables

It’s not just big brands jumping into the NFT wearables that make it a desirable asset. There are also other huge benefits for their owners and creators. These include exclusivity, unrestricted creative freedom, gender neutrality, and more!

The metaverse is pushing fashion to new heights. Inclusive and exclusive creations packaged with blockchain technology allow creators to be seen and appreciated in ways they might not otherwise be in the physical world.

Although NFT wearables bode well for the industry, we are still far away from achieving the ultimate goal of complete ownership through interoperability. The metaverse and NFT wearables offer players actual ownership, yet they cannot take these digital assets they own and use them how they please on another platform. Can you imagine not being able to walk into Levi’s store wearing True Religion jeans or vice versa? Not only does interoperability expand a project’s reach, but it also creates a sense of realism regarding ownership.

Metalinq was born to make digital assets interoperable, and therefore to unlock the potential of NFTs and the metaverse. The protocol allows for seamless and trustless transfers of digital assets and information, across platforms and chains. Learn more about the Metalinq protocol below!
