Howdy Breakers, Joshy and I are jumping in with our first blogging efforts in what will be a monthly (at a minimum) series from here forward. We look forward to bringing the community together through more frequent updates and sneak peeks at what’s to come.

In Q1 of 2022, the team launched our second mini-game, provided a games launcher to offer enhanced performance and security, produced a 3D cinematic, held 5 AMAs, partnered with 8 awesome NFT projects for co-marketing and WL giveaways, attended GDC, and awarded 24 NFTs and $15k for playing our games!

A LOT went down since our last post on January 27, so let’s get to it.

Beast Battler Game and Contest

We launched our second free to play mini-game mode, “Beast Battler,” on January 28 and kicked off an 11-week gaming contest with prizes for top scores as well as to random participants. We eventually scaled down the contest length to 8 weeks thanks to community feedback and brought back the original mini-game mode (“Classic”), thanks to our Games Launcher.

The lion’s share of our 24 NFTs and 15,000 $USDC in prizes went to our most dedicated players: Eddy, KoNut, oItsfranco, and Airs! Every week, they appeared atop the Rankings against hundreds of hungry competitors, but still found time to share their tips and tricks for the perfect run on Discord. A big shout out out to all of our players including Zepps, Zaga, SoberGlutton, Pandium, Kato, JuhJimmy, Raikoul, 6classer, and so many more!

Even if you couldn’t beat Eddy each week, just setting a score entered you in the running for Whitelist spots on our next NFT mint! Our Play-2-Mint philosophy is once again going to reward the people who participate in our community and project, and we’ll have more opportunities for prizes in the near future!

Games Launcher

At the start of March, we released our Games Launcher, which allows installation of our games (via executable) on Windows PCs. The Launcher includes both the “Classic” mini-game mode as well as “Beast Battler,” while paving the way for future games!

The Launcher provides a secure and user-friendly way for a video game to interact with the Web3 [crypto] ecosystem. From what we’ve seen around the industry, players are being forced to either enter sensitive information into game clients or do all Web3 interactions via a game company’s website. We pioneered a way to link signed, secure Web3 data to a running game executable to provide optimal security and an easier onboarding for gamers learning about crypto.

The Launcher offers a vast improvement on game performance over the Web versions of our games. The performance of our games, as well as security of our products, were paramount to our Development and Security teams in creating the launcher.

While the Launcher is currently Windows only, the team is reviewing porting the Launcher to MacOS as we know a lot of you out there play on Macs! You can still play at least one of our games via Web browser.

The Corrupted Video

Another surprise drop in Q1 was the release of “The Corrupted” video. We challenged Vision, our 3D animation team, to showcase their skills, which resulted in this magnificent cinematic. As we look to bring DuskBreakers to life in 3D, including a 3D PFP drop later this year, we wanted to provide the community a taste of what is possible!

New Hires

Q1 saw a number of new hires to add more skills to the team: Community and Marketing added Jason, Joshy, and Stylepiggy; the Creative team added Peter (Warlock), Von, and Nina, as well as Vision, an entire 3D animation studio in Taipei; George joined our Engineering team; and Nico joined the Game team.

Check out the DuskBreakers Team page. We continue to hire actively to meet our aggressive roadmap goals, so check out our Jobs board as well.

Partnerships

Thanks to our awesome community, we had another busy quarter of Web3 partnerships as numerous projects approached us to collaborate on Marketing. Highlights include Clementine’s Nightmare, Zoofrenz, and a collaboration with Cryptowalkers on a DuskBreakers-styled weapon in their upcoming game (which all DuskBreakers NFT holders will have the exclusive chance to mint on April 7!).

AMA Series

Our bi-weekly AMA series launched via Twitter Spaces on February 4, with guest Gabby Dizon, co-founder of Yield Guild. The AMA series allows us to have an open discussion with our community on company updates as well as bring guests from the Gaming and Web3 industries. Since launch, we’ve had three more events as we settled into a format of having a guest speaker on every other show. Recently we featured a chat with Wengie, founder of Nyan Heroes, and this week we’ll have Michael Chu, former Lead Writer of Overwatch.

Lore Update! 😲

Our Creative and Content teams have been burning the midnight oil on Lore updates. We promised Lore updates in Q1, and by gum we’re gonna make this deadline! Keep your eyes open for website updates later today.

Looking ahead to Q2 👀

As we wrap up Q1 this week, we’re deep into planning more big things in Q2. We have more contests on the way and more Marketing efforts to get some buzz going around our project.

As for our games and NFTs, our Game team is hard at work on our big free to play game that will also offer play and earn mechanics. We can’t wait for you to see what we have in store!

Thanks for tuning in. We’ll see you around Machafuko. ✌
