❓ Questions and answers…

Shipon Chowdhury — LinkedIn Profile
I have 20+ years of experience in London and Mainland Europe in delivering large scale cross asset banking systems as a software architect and lead developer. I have MSc from the London Queen Mary University in Computer Science and I have also obtained a BSc in Biochemistry. Based in London, UK.

What’s your job position at METAXSEED + what do you do for METAXSEED?

I am the Co-Founder, CEO and Lead Games Developer. Having a deep technical background allows me to better informed decisions for the project implementation. My main role is to bring the entire team together to work in an efficient manner to achieve our objective of ushering in mass adoption of blockchain gaming. With experience in computer science, banking, game development and web3, I have the right blend of skills to spearhead our talented team.

What did you do before working with METAXSEED?

My academic background is within Computer Science, Biochemistry/AI, Banking and Game Development. I attained my Master’s at the London Queen Mary University. I subsequently spent 20 years working in London, Johannesburg and Stockholm for tier 1 investment banks and hedge funds as software architect and project manager. Some of the companies I have worked for include HSBC, Swedbank, Adenza & Brummer delivering large scale cross asset solutions for payment systems like SWIFT as well as regulatory compliance frameworks including BASEL2, EMIR and MIFID2.

Over the last 5 years, I have been increasingly involved in game development and blockchain solutions.

“What type of game development?”

Gaming has always been a passion of mine from a young age and I grew up playing games on the Amiga 500, SNES, Gameboy and PSP. Spending half of my youth playing games ‘Pro Evolution Soccer’, ‘Chaos Engine’, ‘Tiberian Sun’ and ‘Championship Manager’ gave me a appreciation of what makes games fun to play. More recently after having kids, I play games such as ‘Fortnite’, ‘Fall Guys’ and ‘Last of Us’ which all happen to be created on Unreal Engine.

I followed my passion for gaming and started to develop games with the intention to evolve the industry for the next generation via the blockchain.

When did you first get involved in crypto?

My first involvement in crypto was in 2016 when I started to trade Bitcoin, Ethereum and XRP. Soon after my interest was in NFTs, solidity and smart contracts. Since 2020, games like Axie Infinity have showed the potential of NFTs and blockchain gaming. I took a deep dive and never looked back. We are fortunate to now be able attract the very best minds from Web-2 into Web-3.

What do you like the most about crypto?

Many reasons but the main ones are the fact that it is permissionless, decentralized and has the potential to change all aspects of humanity and technology. Ownership and utilisation of digital assets, (once mature & regulated), can be revolutionary within all sectors of the economy.

Entering early in this space allows us to shape and evolve the industry in the right direction.

Do you have any predictions on where crypto will be 5 years from now?

Within 5 years, there will be regulatory clarity as well as mass adoption of the major cryptocurrencies as underlying infrastructure. The focus will shift to creating value via dapps for social media, streaming music, file storage, medical records and of course blockchain gaming using NFTs. Mass adoption will occur when the technical barrier for entry is reduced to a point where users are unaware of the technology but instead focussed on the applications and experiences.

In terms of gaming, 3 billion players are set to enter the space. Game-fi is very likely to dominate the narrative within a multi chain landscape.

What do you like doing outside of crypto and METAXSEED?

My hobbies include cycling, football and generally keeping up with my children who have too much energy. Aside from that, I also regularly go camping to get away from the hectic pace of life in London. A big fan of Game of Thrones, The Wire, Sopranos and anything Tarantino/Nolan related.
