Meteor framework web app development: 3 examples to kill some time and have fun.
Websites and web apps developed with meteor framework are spreading fast through the net. Have you ever seen them? How do they look and work? Can they be modern and attention grabbing? Let’s figure it out by checking out three examples!
You can find the benefits of one page site development using meteor in another article . Also, if you’re not sure what website will best fit your needs- see this article that tells when a one page site is the best solution.
FantasyHub
Let’s start with a review of a well-designed site FantasyHub. The website’s unique and colorful appearance made me to stay at this site and check with its functionality. What is FantasyHub? It is a daily fantasy sports platform. Here’s how it works: you enter the site, join a game, and then you are offered to choose your team.
You pick athletes one by one. You are choosing real athletes, interestingly, so you are able to create the team of your dreams. But remember that there is a salary limit of $50 000 for the whole team and each player requires different amounts of money to play for your team. Before each game you choose a percent of your winnings to be given to charity along with what charity you want to support. The game is now played between you and other players who did similar steps to you. But, there can be one winner only that will get the money and glory.
There are special games sponsored by celebrities, where the winner gets extra prizes — like a personal phone call, autograph, etc. The idea of supporting charities by giving a percentage of winnings from every game is wonderful. Can you imagine how many people would be helped?
The Longest Chain
Everything is so simple and the site’s functionality makes you play with it for some time. The longest chain is a web application developed using Meteor framework and Bootstrap (+ a little bit of d3js) by a developer from Spain. What is the purpose of this app? To be honest, I’m not sure, but here is the flow: You first are log in, then create a nickname. After this you can choose to create your own chain or read and decide. For example, you’ve chosen to read and decide. Then you’ll see someone’s message. This message can consist of words and\or pictures. If you pass it, another user will see the same message and he\she will have to make the same decision- to pass it or to break the chain. If the chain is broken- no one will see this message again. If you’ve created a message, you can then see how many users passed it and if it is active or if someone has broken it. While I was looking through this web app developed with the meteor framework, I’ve been wished a good day more than 5 times, and that really had positive effect on my mood. Some people from another part of the world or maybe from the next building wished me a good day. Certainly I couldn’t break the chain so- I’ve passed these messages. Thanks for the app, Guillermo!
Tic&Toe
This simple game- Tic&Toe was also developed through Meteor framework. This game is a bit more difficult than the original Tic Tac Toe as- there are more fields. So we have the original Tic Tac Toe field of 3×3, so winning on one field doesn’t give a victory for you. To win the whole game you have to win at least three times and make a line from the fields where you have won. If you won some fields and your competitor won others, but no one has won a line of his or her Tics\Toes then- you’ll have a draw.
Summary
In this article we had short reviews of websites and web apps developed with Meteor framework. We found they can appear as a nice website with an attractive design. We’ve also checked out a site created by a developer from Spain. This website is simple and has very basic design. However, it doesn’t make the longest chain unattractive. Instead, I think that it gives its own charm to a site. Tic&Toe app proved that web app games can also be developed through Meteor framework. Each of these three websites or web apps have the main Meteor’s advantage: they are fast. Also, everyone of these three websites were intuitive enough to use it without reading instructions. So don’t hesitate to create your website or web app through the Meteor framework!
