As of January 10, 2020, the Meter testnet is being completely run by community validator nodes!

Meter’s Warring Stakes incentivized testnet launched on December 10th, 2019. 56 validators submitted applications to participate. And even though the holiday season was approaching, nearly 30 validators from China, US, and Europe successfully completed the entire process and started validating transactions on Meter’s testnet.

Meter’s testnet is the first HotStuff (PDF download) consensus network that is open to public Proof-of-Stake validation. It is also the first Byzantine Fault Tolerance (BFT) testnet that allows consensus nodes on both sides of the Great Firewall of China under severe network attacks.

During the first few weeks of the test period, the participating nodes closely worked with the Meter team to complete multiple upgrades to address the issues identified through these attacks. Meter’s development team has extensive experience working with similar technology at companies such as Google, Cicso and Huawei.

The transition to the community-run testnet marked a very important milestone in Meter’s mission to decentralize currency.
