We submitted! Down to the wire but we finally figured out the upload to the Oculus platform. Shout out to developer Katelyn Thomas for making this happen because those final hours were filled with the most intense pressure.

It was an enormous 12 weeks packed with many internal benchmarks. This has been one of the hardest projects I’ve ever done. Filmmaker Olga Lvoff did her first VR editing with us and after she cut the 360 videos she overheard me talking to the 3D modeler and concluded “it makes filmmaking look easy.”

This is just the beginning for us. This experience needs to grow to adapt into multiplayer, but it’s great to have a working demo for single player. This is an important tool for us to move forward.

The deeper lesson here is about the people and the team, which are the underlying support the game. I feel like I now have a team I can turn to with future VR experiences. We’ve added new people and taught them new skills; we’ve taught each other and what is life really if it isn’t about growing and learning? I could not have done this in a silo. I love creating a community.

The take aways… I’ve asked our team to comment on some aspects they’ve learned and challenges they’ve overcome while creating this demo. I’m collecting their reflections and will be posting in October.

Thank you for reading about my journey on this experience!
