TL;DR

We invite you to participate to RoboCode International Tournament, organized by METRO AG and METRO SYSTEMS Romania, happening on 20th January 2018. Register until 10th January 2018 if you want to participate.

It is a coding competition, where participants will program virtual robots (in Java) to battle each other. The event is happening simultaneously in 4 cities: Berlin (DE), Brașov (RO), Bucharest (RO), Dusseldorf (DE). Registration link is here.

What is RoboCode

RoboCode is a programming game, where the goal is to develop a robot battle tank to battle against other tanks. The battles are running in real-time and can be visualized on the screen. The robots will be programmed using Java.

The participant will program the robot, but will not have a direct influence on the game. Instead, the participant should write a smart algorithm/AI of the robot telling it how to behave and react on events occurring in the battle arena.
The event will happen on 20th January 2018. Registrations are open until 10th January 2018.

The competition

The final showdown will be done in 2 rounds:
1. A country final — a battle between robots from the same country
2. An international final where the best robots from each country will fight for

Here is a list of prizes for the winners of the international final:
1. The winner of the international showdown final will receive 500 EUR , if a team of two wins it receives 1.000 EUR.
2. The runner-up will get 200 EUR, same here: if a team of two wins, they receive 400 EUR
3. The third seeded can look forward to a prize of 100 EUR — a team of two receives 200 EUR.

Who can participate

Anyone can participate — no matter the programming level. You just need to be present in one of our event locations and know a little, just some or maybe a lot of Java.

You can participate alone or in pairs.
Just bring your laptop and your preferred JAVA IDE so that you can just start coding your robot.

How to register

You can see the entire event and more info about it at https://www.metroag.de/hackathon

Or you can directly go to register in the city you want to take part:

- Berlin
- Dusseldorf
- Bucharest
- Brasov

Why RoboCode?

First because it creates an opportunity to use Java and code for fun while in the same time stimulating the intellectual curiosity of a tech aficionado.

Second because within our Innovation Initiative in METRO SYSTEMS Romania we are always looking for new challenges or new opportunities to create or scale. Last year our colleagues in METRO AG organized this event in Dusseldorf and this year we joined them in making it available in Bucharest and Brasov.
