Constant mewtation (my internship journey at mewt)
An internship is a crucial stepping stone for professional exposure and a foundational stone for every university student. And after I finished my third year, I was looking for some experience in the field of front-end development. As a guy who only has developmental experience in his desired field, bagging an internship would be an ideal kickstart to boost my career experience, brushing up my skills and most importantly, get acquainted with the fundamental skills, be it hard or soft, which recruiters often find in the fresher candidates when they sit for placements.
So I started my extensive search for the opportunity by applying on platforms like Internshala, LinkedIn, AngelList, and even seeking referrals wherever possible. While searching for options, I stumbled upon a company called mewt. When the profile suited me, I immediately applied for the application. A few days later, I got a notification from mewt that they wanted to schedule an interview after reviewing the resume I submitted during the application process.
The following day when I joined the meet, I was immediately made comfortable by Rishabh (RJ). The entire interview was more about getting to know about me and mewt.
I was tasked to create a React web app that would change its background as the user inputs their desired colour. After sharing the repository, little did I know, it would start this beautiful journey of a mewtant.
One morning, I checked my phone and got an email from mewt that I had been accepted and could join immediately, so I didn’t think twice and accepted the offer right at the moment.
On the first day at the standup, I was warmly welcomed by the entire team. I wasn’t just an intern here but an integral part of the team, and during the whole tenure of this internship, this consistency remained till the last day.
During the initial days, the standup meetings and the regular calls with RJ and Kushal instilled the confidence to take the tasks and work on them. I found the breaking ground to hone my skills and learn the difference between working in the development and production stages.
When I joined, I was added to the mewt app project, which was in react native. As a react developer, taking up React native was relatively easy. After learning the fundamentals, I was immediately assigned to granular chunks of tasks, which helped me boost my morale after completing those tasks. After the app part, I worked on the main website and developed the sales portal, which will be used by the internal team and the Direct Selling Agents (DSAs).
During the entire tenure of the internship, I learnt many things which could only be learned through exposure and working in an environment. Be it effectively using Git, VSCode, searching for answers on Google and StackOverflow, made me realise as a developer to hustle while being humble. I would like to thank RJ and Kushal. They have been thoroughly supportive towards me, with the individual attention by assessing my strengths, weaknesses, the avenues to improve, and the feedback they provided. And, a special shoutout to Ishaan and Tarun for guiding me and helping me out at times.
As I wrap up my internship, when I look at the difference between my first day and the last day, there are a lot of skills, stories, memories and inspirations I learnt while contributing to being a part of the technical team of one of India’s emerging neobanks for MSMEs. Working in a startup taught me about the values of responsibilities, the quick adaptation of working on the go, and to be spontaneously ready for any challenge, which helped me improve my composure, and being a mewtant mewtated (pun intended) me with an arsenal of skills and wisdom which would help me in the further stages of life.
