Hey Hackers! My name is Antonio, and Peter and I are replacing Nevin and Kevin as the new directors of MHacks, along with Yazad, who’s sticking around from last year! We’re sorry it’s been a while since you’ve last heard from us.

We’ve been working hard figuring out how to reinvent the way that you experience MHacks. Because of this, we’ve decided there will not be an MHacks event this spring.

There are a lot of factors that went into making this difficult decision, but we think we made the right one. By starting to plan for our fall event now, we can work towards building a smoother, more memorable hacking experience. Having this extra time to work on MHacks will allow us to properly incubate, test, and deploy every aspect of a hackathon, from logistics to tech. We’re now working with the University of Michigan to (hopefully) arrange for a sleeping space at future events, and we’re excited about some of the incredible speakers and workshops we have planned for y’all.

Big Changes

We know a lot of you will be disappointed without a Spring event to deprive you of sleep and fill your closets with swag, so we’re brainstorming ways to engage the MHacks community in the coming months — stay tuned for updates 😉. And while Fall seems a long way away, we’ll be using that time as best as we can. We plan to make the logistical and technical details behind MHacks more transparent, so that students looking to set-up their own hackathon have the resources they need to hit the ground running. We’ll continue to put all of our code on our GitHub, and we plan to publish more documentation about MHacks as an organization. We’re also working on building a stronger presence in the hackathon community by dedicating more resources to help budding hackathon organizers.

Change is scary, but, as we always have, MHacks will continue to pave the way for the next generation of hackathons to flourish. We’re still the MHacks you know and love — we’re just taking a big step forward.

As always, be sure to keep your eyes peeled to mhacks.org for updates on all things MHacks and reach out to us any time at directors@mhacks.org!

See you in the Fall!

— Antonio
