To repeat the first line above: To join, all you have to do is admit that you are a thoroughly Modern human. There are of course two factions, but you don’t need to join either.
They agree to mostly ignore each other and stand united in celebrating one another’s ability to declare their condition of being non-viable modern humans and to seek out the condition now of a potentially viable future.
If you are a thoroughly Modern human and the possibility of going extinct as such is of no concern to you (why would you or your kind ever choose to go extinct?), then neither faction will be of interest. Join MHEM at either and it won’t matter — and you won’t mind.
Some Moderns celebrate the condition of being a Modern human as the best thing ever and seek to persist as a viable form of hyper (beyond post) modern human needing 96,000 kWh/person/year of energy — and a new social contract — to live the hyper human life (modern life, being fossil fueled, is otherwise non-viable, as are most imagined alternative sources of energy). If hyper, join the Hyper Modern Human Extinction Movement.
Others (the “or-nots”) declare themselves to be Modern humans for the same reason that alcoholics at an AA meeting start by acknowledging they are alcoholics. Acknowledge your condition and you are MHEM. Whether you want all life on Earth (or city-state except what humans value) to go extinct (or not) is secondary. Each member can decide what being a Modern human means (Gaia doesn’t care, so why should we?), but no one gets to decide what works to persist (the Gaian system does). If an Or-not, join the Modern Human Extinction Movement (for Or-nots).

If you have one foot on the edge of a precipice and the other on thin air, you will, assuming suicide is not your intent, choicelessly pull back if you understand your predicament, even if the other 8 billion do not. Otherwise, enjoy the way down (the cliff is 1,000 ft, so you have 10 seconds to enjoy— or not).
If you haven’t been tempted to join the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement, perhaps it is because you haven’t heard about VHEMT.
We of MHEM are in no way associated with VHEMT as they are not nearly extreme enough — nor vehement enough. Membership in MHEM excludes all environmentalists (and other political animals). Theodore John Kaczynski was not a political animal (he was a modernized human of NIMH, but one who sought to renormalize).
The Voluntary Human Extinction Movement is an antinatalist environmental movement that calls for all people to abstain from reproduction in order to cause the gradual (not nearly fast enough) voluntary extinction of humankind.
MHEM (the Or-not and Hyper faction) is pronatalist — about 1 in 250 women should have children, and when there are fewer than 7–35 million humans on the planet, the average woman should have 4 children, half of whom reproduce (if not, then humans will go extinct — not saying good or bad).
The VHEMT website (and members) supports human extinction primarily because it would prevent environmental degradation, e.g. end the Anthropocene mass extinction event that could rival that of the Permian (extinction of 90% of land plant/animal/fungi species and 96% of marine species) and mitigate a human die-off by Malthusian (premature) overshoot die off.
VHEMT would end the Anthropocene if 99% of humans joined (or 51% join and force the 49% to go along — democratically, of course). MHEM notes that if modern humans could agree to a rapid birth-off to delay human extinction for an eon or so, then extinction would not be locked into the modern techno-industrial dynamic (but modern humans cannot allow their reproductive rights to be interfered with, ergo, modern humans shall pass away).
The word “voluntary” is problematic. VHEMT was founded in 1991 and so far the pace of planetary destruction has not slowed. MHEM views modern humans as a complex, adaptive, dissipative but non-evolvable subsystem of the Gaian system (i.e. humans don’t get a vote on whether the second law of thermodynamics should be repealed so Lord Man can command and control the Cosmos).
Modern humans are pursuing multiple pathways towards extinction, apparently to see which will get them there the fastest. Hence, a new movement is needed. Modern humans are incompatible with the biosphere, the Gaian system (and not because we say so). Modern humans are inhuman (are dehumanized hominins as domestic dogs are decanidaed wolves).
To ensure that modern humans achieve extinction (of themselves if not most of life on the planet) and recovery of the biosphere (if only the parts humans want to preserve), JOIN MHEM NOW! and remain a modern human — you don’t need to change or do anything other that what you are doing now. To be MHEM is to be radically honest about what you are, about why, as a modern human, you cannot “save the world” as a form of human that would turn Earth into a coast to coast, pole to pole urbanscape if it could. (Note: The creator of this page is an Or-not after breakfast, completely biased, so pro-Modern human members of MHEM who would transition to a hyper/viable form, should go to the Hyper’s Facebook page where the creator of this page goes before breakfast.)
The greater your Anthropocene enthusiasm, the sooner the Anthropocene ends. To feel better, to get a dopamine hit, please JOIN MHEM NOW! [When the Facebook group is big enough, MainStream Media will have to cover it and spread the message of why all modern humans should join MHEM NOW!]
If you know any 10-year-olds, you can tell them you joined, that you did all you could (short of understanding and thereby being delivered from the remorseless dynamic we are all part of).
So, once you’ve joined MHEM, you don’t need to read anymore. Think about what you’re missing on TikTok. Seriously, relax, enjoy life while you can — if you can (Or-nots will struggle). Only a few freaks (aka Or-nots) won’t be able to walk on thin air, and will (perhaps) pointlessly read on.

For involuntary change, join MHEM. The belief that you are a free agent, with free will to choose your future (or get modern humans to choose their future), is error floating on a sea of ignorance in a thick fog of illusion.
[Note: MHEM membership excludes politicians and the recently (<1 year) politically active, including environmentalists. Otherwise, with the exception of the San, Hadza, and Pygmy, all other humans are Modern humans, and acknowledging that such is who and what you are is the requirement for being MHEM. MHEM includes members who celebrate Modern human life and favor the extinction of all life that humans do not value (aka “Hypers”). Hyper MHEM supporters may prefer to join Hyper MHEM. A minority faction views the condition of being a Modern human the way AA members view the condition of being an alcoholic — i.e. non-viable. We modern humans are an extinction movement (the Anthropocene mass extinction) and some view this as proof of our superiority to mere animals. To join MHEM, you don’t have to be for or against being a modern human. You have to admit that you are one.
MHEM’s Goal
Get all humans who are modern humans to acknowledge their condition.
No struggle between “for” and “against” is implied. Views of whether modernity is good or bad, vary.
1. The majority view is that modern humans can keep on keeping on getting better and better forever.
2. Some note that matter-energy flows (mass-joules) to support life as a modern humans would live it is limited to what hydroelectric dams in three regions can provide to three megacities providing 96,000 kWh/person/year.
3. Some agree that up to 50 million hyper techno-industrial humans could keep on keeping on within three megacities if all agree to a social contract that realizes a design for a viable civilization, but they seek instead a simpler way as set out by the United Federation of Watersheds (of Earth).
