Welcome To Colin Kaepernick Week
Looking at the effects of Kaep’s protests and what they mean for America.
This week our publication will be talking about the Collin Kaepernick saga and how it is affecting our country. With the media taking it in one direction and society taking it in another, Kaepernick’s protest has really put a spin on what is disrespect here in America.
There has been constant debate about what Kaepernick has done during the national anthem, which has caused outcries from celebrities and other voices in their respected communities. And there has been negative feedback from fans even during president Obama’s speech on 9/11, which will be discussed later in another one of our stories.
What Collin Kaepernick is protesting is that this country is not as great as it is being proclaimed to be in the national anthem, so in place of standing during the song with his head bowed and hand over his heart Kaepernick simply takes a knee while the song goes on and at its conclusion he gets up and proceeds with his pre game rituals for the game.
Kaepernick decided to take a stand, or in this case a knee, against police brutality against black people in a form of nonviolent protest just like Martin Luther King Jr. did before him.
As his protest grew more people started to give their two cents about the protest, from fans, to team owners, celebrities, and even the NFL as a corporation has come out and given a statement about the recent actions of Collin Kapernick and how they are his actions alone and not those of the NLF.
Main reasons why people are upset with Kaepernick’s actions are because in their eyes he is disrespecting the very men and women who fought for our land and freedom. But strange enough the same veterans who other people say Kaepernick is disrespecting have come out and said that they believe what Kaepernick is doing and support him in his protest. And a large part of that is because, after serving your time for our country it is harder for veterans to find work to continue to help their respective families even though they served our country.
For as many people have come out against Kaepernick the same amount of people if not more have come out to support him as well. There have been all types supporters to aid Kaepernick, and they keep coming out. In fact more and more players in the league have started to take a knee or hold up a fist as apart of the protest that Kaepernick has started and really taken over the media world, as we know it.
Nobody knows how long his protest will go one, but it will stand as a moment in history we will never forget.
