Coalition members met with Members of the House Judiciary and Small Business Committees

Washington, D.C., March 28, 2023 — Recently, the MIC (pronounced “Mike,” as in “microphone”) Coalition held a meet and greet at the Capitol with lawmakers from the House of Representatives Judiciary Committee. Members attending included: Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA-48); Rep. Scott Fitzgerald (R-WI-05); Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA-05); Rep. Glenn Ivey (D-MD-04); and Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA-04).

At the event, various members of the Coalition discussed the complexities of music licensing and the need to bring greater balance and transparency to the process. Specifically, coalition members from the American Beverage Licensees (ABL), National Restaurant Association (NRA), International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM), National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), and Digital Media Association (DiMA) highlighted the need to develop a functional music marketplace that benefits consumers, creators, and the millions of MIC member businesses who regularly license musical works for purposes of public performance.

There was broad and bipartisan interest among the Members of Congress for exploring the MIC issues more and developing a deeper understanding of the issues MIC members face.
