This Is America by: Childish Gambino |Explained|
First off let me say props to Quavo, Slim Jimmy, Young Thug, Kodak Black and, 21 Savage for the Ad-Libs. Bet you didn’t know that! But recently Childish Gambino an amazing person in the rap game, movie game and, basically any type of game there is dropped this music video, ‘This Is America’. There is so many hidden things found in it that you easily missed and that I missed at first but here we go, Enjoy!
The video takes place in a warehouse to represent that America is all about marketplace and manufacturing. The video starts off with some nice vocals talking about partying, Gambino is dancing and then all of a sudden he kills a black man. The gun is taken away carefully and is taken care of but the man is dragged away, this symbolizes that when people are shot the guns get more care than the people. The way he held the gun people are saying he imitated a Jim Crow character but I don’t see it.
Then he starts dancing and has kids dancing with him, this is to show that when tragedy happens we move onto quickly and follow the next trend which is usually dancing. As he does the ‘shoot’ dance because a man was ‘shot’. At this moment when him and the kids are dancing stuff is happening in the background, A man gets ran over, then a car gets robbed, a guy jumps off the second story building and, a little kid is blowing away his money. But most importantly the group of kids recording it all but there faces were covered, because the people behind the camera who record this madness never come out and say that’s there recording and stuff like that.
Gambino is shown look dirty, and kind of looks broke. Which could represent the amount of poverty in America. Many cop cars are in the video but no cops are in them? Why? Where are the cops at? EXACTLY! Where are the cops at when stuff like this happens. Moving on we see 2 random chickens, One chicken is white, One chicken is brown. Both chickens are looking opposite directions, To show that black people and white people don’t always see eye to eye.
Gambino shoots the singing choir, representing a church shooting massacre. But again like the first shooting the gun gets better treatment then the dead people and Gambino starts to dance again. This is all a theory and some of it may be a stretch, Don’t completely believe anything I wrote about today until Gambino or someone associated with him tells you so! Thank You For Reading!
