College of Science Stickers

I designed four captivating stickers using Adobe Illustrator, meticulously tracing and refining shapes with the Pen Tool to match the provided picture. I crafted engaging designs that resonate with the target audience through thoughtful color choices and attention to detail. This project showcased my proficiency in graphic design and Adobe Illustrator and resulted in the creation of four unique and visually appealing stickers.

Enamel Pins

I assembled a set of seven striking enamel pins using Adobe Illustrator, leveraging pre-existing icons and incorporating chrome inner details with black and white edging for a sleek finish. Serving as the designer for this project, I ensured each pin adhered to a cohesive layout while maintaining individuality. These pins, crafted with my expertise in Adobe Illustrator and layout design, were enthusiastically embraced as tokens of achievement for student graduations, further solidifying my proficiency in designing for various mediums and occasions.

College of Science Flyer

I conceptualized and designed a two-page flyer featuring detailed departmental information for the College of Science. Through a meticulous selection process, I curated multiple image options to complement the content effectively. To enhance the visual impact, I incorporated the degree representation as a highly opaque design behind the text, ensuring clarity and cohesion. Recognizing the need for concise communication, I condensed the original wording without compromising essential information. Additionally, I optimized the flyer’s size, enlarging it to accommodate content while maintaining a structured, boxy design aesthetic. This project showcased my proficiency in graphic design and demonstrated my ability to adapt and refine content for maximum impact.

Display Ads

I resized Jenna Heaton’s original design for five distinct billboard sizes. Jenna’s design already incorporates four unique images with corresponding taglines and matched UVU’s existing marketing aesthetics as of 2022; I adapted the design seamlessly between sizes. The finalized designs were then placed on highway billboards in Utah, effectively reaching our target audience.

Future Educators

I revamped a design from a student for both A-frame and digital signage. Their biggest faux pas was inappropriate colors, which I adjusted to match UVU branding guidelines—other fixes involved meticulously adjusting layouts to accommodate four size variations, including horizontal and vertical formats. I incorporated a detailed cut-out image relevant to future educators, maintaining clarity and impact across all designs. I effectively engaged prospective students interested in joining the future educators club by delivering these four designs on time.

Google Ads for UVU Online

I crafted eight designs across four unique concepts and seven size variations, encompassing both vertical and horizontal orientations, as specified by the client. Working with images sourced from PhotoShelter, I seamlessly integrated them with color backgrounds using Adobe XD, ensuring a smooth transition for each design. I maintained visual continuity by creating gradients for the backgrounds, allowing the images to remain the focal point while incorporating the client’s chosen taglines. Despite the limitations of image expansion at the time, I adeptly utilized Adobe XD to achieve the desired effect. Reflecting on the project, I recognize the potential efficiency gains by leveraging Adobe Photoshop’s generative fill feature for future iterations.

Icons

I collaborated with Jenna Heaton to expand and refine the icon sets for various colleges and schools at UVU. Leveraging existing CHPS, COS, and WSB icons, I scoured Shutterstock for editable icons, ensuring consistency with previous designs. I conducted thorough online research for unreadily available icons, generating concept ideas for designing new icons within Illustrator. Striving for visual cohesion, I matched the established style as closely as possible. I sourced and designed approximately two-thirds of all icons utilized by UVU’s colleges and schools. These icons were integrated into icon tablecloths for each college and school, serving as enduring visual assets for the institution.

Office Hours: YouTube Series

I contributed to the design of 15 YouTube thumbnails for the ‘Office Hours’ video series at the university. ‘Office Hours’ was an ongoing project involving collaboration among the designers within the Creative Services Marketing team. ‘Office Hours’ currently has 105 videos and corresponding thumbnails designed by our team. Notably, one of the videos titled ‘What is Mutation’ garnered significant attention with 6.9 thousand views, while collectively, my designs contributed to 14,829 views across the series. Over two years, I observed a gradual evolution in the thumbnail style from predominantly green with cut-outs to a more image-centric approach, strategically incorporating text around the images for enhanced visual impact.

PACE Development Forum

I played a pivotal role in designing promotional materials for the PACE Development Forum, encompassing various digital signage formats, social media platforms, flyers, and posters. The designs incorporated comprehensive event details, taglines, and images into each design iteration. Leveraging feedback from John Kung, I refined the layout to ensure optimal visual appeal and readability. While drawing inspiration from a Canva banner template, I customized the designs to align with the event’s branding and objectives.

Police Hat: Patch

I was tasked with designing a hat patch for the campus police at UVU, which was distinct from their existing arm patch but maintained a similar aesthetic. I crafted six diverse options, experimenting with circular and semi-shield shapes and integrating elements like stars. I transformed hand-drawn concepts into vector designs using Illustrator and presented them to the client for review. While one design resembling a shield garnered positive feedback from my colleagues, the client sought adjustments and provided additional reference material. Incorporating their input, I refined existing designs and introduced new variations. To provide a visual context, I created multiple hat mockups showcasing the patches on black hats. Despite these efforts, the project has been indefinitely postponed.

Smith College of Engineering & Technology Parent Open House

I designed a flyer in two sizes, 5x7 and 11x8.5, with the larger intended for online distribution. Inspired by a design by Amy Ripplinger, I adapted it to fit the grungy aesthetic requested by my client in the Transportation Technologies department. To match the aesthetic involved darkening colors, replacing photos, and incorporating word changes provided by the client. I ensured the flyer aligned with the ‘A Place for You’ styling and was consistent with UVU’s primary marketing approach.

Study Abroad Shirt

I spearheaded the t-shirt design for the School of Education’s study abroad program in Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Malaysia. Referencing shirts that other designers had already created, I sketched five initial concepts. Understanding the importance of cultural sensitivity, I carefully evaluated each design, ultimately selecting three options for further development. After roughing out these designs, the client preferred one featuring passport stamps representing each destination. I then created multiple iterations of this design, presenting eight variations on black and gray t-shirt mockups. The final design incorporated a green, yellow, and orange color scheme with the School of Education’s secondary logo at the top and the year on the sleeve, all on a black shirt. Feedback from the student confirmed their enthusiasm for the design, reinforcing its success.

School of Education Sticker

I led the design process for stickers and a shirt for the School of Education, drawing inspiration from client-provided ideas and reference images. One concept depicted a group of objects forming the shape of Utah. At the same time, the other featured a half circle split into sections resembling a setting sun, accompanied by a tagline and bird outline. While I favored the Utah design, the client preferred the latter concept. Despite initially rejecting variations on the half-circle design, the client eventually requested a more direct copy. This iterative process spanned several months, teaching me valuable lessons in patience and adaptability. Ultimately, the final product was well-received and embraced.

Welcome Week

I developed a series of designs for UVU’s School of Education to promote Welcome Week activities for incoming first-year students. Drawing inspiration from a Canva design, I adapted it for the flyer version and resized it for the remaining formats. The client expressed immediate satisfaction with the designs without requiring any revisions. These materials effectively engaged new students and facilitated their introduction to campus and educational programs.

Teaching as a Profession

I developed two designs with a unified concept but tailored to different requirements. The first was an 11x17 poster featuring station names for the event, while the second was an A-frame welcoming poster with the theme ‘Teaching is My Superpower.’ Both designs prominently featured a cut-out white image of a superwoman, created by combining elements from Shutterstock images to achieve the desired superhero pose and dynamic fabric motion.

Trading Cards

I collaborated with Tessa Lindley to expand upon the initial design concept for trading cards focused on emergency preparedness. While Tessa completed the design for the active shooter and earthquake cards and stylized the card backs, I created an additional eight cards. However, my enthusiasm for the project led me to design 23 cards. The designs were approved, although their eventual use remains unknown.

Transportation Flags

I spearheaded the design of flags for Transportation Technologies to be utilized at events. Crafting six distinct designs, each offering two options with color variations between green and white, I provided the client with a range of choices. Ultimately, they selected the flags featuring a checkered pattern at the bottom.
