Introducing Michi Spotlight: An All-Inclusive Tech Newsletter/Blog for Students.
Introducing an intuitive way for new students to learn about opportunities.
In India, the quantity of computer science graduates (and engineering graduates in general) is very high but quite low when it comes to quality. Although, during the lockdown, many students were able to explore beyond their regular curriculum due to prolonged exposure to the online world.
The internet is brimming with information and opportunities. The key to finding the most relevant opportunities and resources is by doing extensive research. But what if there was a way you could get it all in your inbox?
Being a Tier-3 college student, opportunities weren’t exactly laid out for me by my college or anyone for that matter. I had that drive to be the best and hence I sought it out by doing proper research, discovering many tools and ideas along the way. Now, I’m gonna try to help you do something similar.
MichiSpotlight is a weekly newsletter for Indian Students wanting to pursue a career in the field of Tech. It would include all sorts of opportunities, resources, tips, and tricks plus a bunch of free stuff. Read more to find out.
MichiSpotlight? Now that’s a weirdly cool name.
In Japanese, Michi means path. I chose this name for this initiative because students who I’m trying to help are trying to find their own way in life and here I am providing you with an idea of what your Michi would look like (and also because Michi is a cute name xD). Adding spotlight just makes it look zazzy. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Okay, enough nonsense! What’s in it for me?
Well, the MichiSpotlight Newsletter is for you if you fall under the following categories:
- You want to learn about the latest opportunities — events, newest internship updates, competitions, hackathons, open-source programs & projects, and make the best out of them when there is time. (and not when people are posting about them on LinkedIn).
- You want proper resources that cover everything about a certain topic including future scope and applications.
- You want to learn about building a personal brand as a student on LinkedIn, Twitter, and other relevant platforms depending on your field of interest, from a person with a decent LinkedIn profile who is not charging money to tell you to change your profile picture in a long-ass course.
- You want to learn how to be more creative, productive, and organized in life.
- You like free stuff — free customizable productivity templates for Notion, Excel, and Trello. Free resume reviews and LinkedIn profile reviews before you submit them to your recruiters. Not to mention, free ka gyaan.
- You like cheap paisa vasool stuff — Proper schedules on your favorite productivity apps for online courses you are doing, or the resources you are consuming from the internet, proper development strategies, and tech stack selection for your projects. (More details to follow).
- You would like some insight into the interview process for different kinds of activities, jobs, internships, etc. from a person who has taken and given more than 100 interviews in the past 1 year.
- You would like more pop culture references in your life.
That’s a lotttt! But which domain would these resources/opportunities be relevant to?
This is an all-inclusive newsletter, I’ll be posting opportunities just for students, especially Indian students because it’s very difficult to find opportunities (especially internships).
But don’t worry, there is going to be a ton of stuff you can uncover from the blogs I’ll write here every sometimes. *unleashes inner Tim Urban*
Interesting! But why are you launching a newsletter? Why not something like a discord community or a WhatsApp group?
Being able to maintain a community is very difficult. Too many people on too many platforms. It requires a lot of effort building and maintaining a community from scratch. Medium is a platform that has a lot of people reading blogs on it already. Plus, if you want to be a developer or something, you need to know how to read stuff — Stack Overflow, Documentation, Technical Articles, you name it.
Communities are also quite overwhelming at times. Too much stuff thrown at us, most of it not relevant. My focus is completely on delivering opportunities into your inbox and helping you learn from resources judiciously. Also, I’m batman!
Do you wanna help me?
If you’re someone who doesn’t have the time or the energy to help other students, you can submit any kind of counsel and opportunities to me via email and I’ll feature your contribution in the newsletter.
Alternatively, if you have an internship opportunity and want quality candidates, drop me an email with the details and I’ll feature it in the newsletter. Deal?
Constructive Feedback never hurts ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Do drop in your suggestions for me and MichiSpotlight at dwvicy@gmail.com
Thank you so much for reading! I’ll be releasing the First Newsletter of MichiSpotlight on 28th March 2021 (Sunday).
