Clinc, Inc. CEO and Co-founder Jason Mars will be on the University of Michigan’s campus in a few weeks. In collaboration with Michigan FinTech, Clinc is co-hosting a company recruiting event on Wednesday, November 28th from 5:30–7:00pm in R0320 Ross School of Business (find more information & RSVP here).

Jason will be discussing Clinc’s applications and how he built the startup to become the fastest growing in Ann Arbor, as well as demo the platform for attendees.

Several Clinc employees will also talk about their roles and day-to-day lives at Clinc.

But what exactly is conversational artificial intelligence? What are its applications? Who is Jason Mars, and what makes him an expert with Clinc? Let’s start with addressing the last question.

Jason Mars: Co-Founder and CEO

Jason is on leave as a professor at the University of Michigan where he runs the Clarity Lab for Artificial Intelligence. Through his research, he has worked with IBM Watson, Google, Facebook, Intel, and the National Science Foundation and has also previously worked for Google and Intel. Recently, Jason has been recognized as one of the “Top 10 Most Innovative CEOs in Banking”.

In 2015, Jason started Clinc out of Clarity Lab (CLarity Lab Inc. → Clinc) alongside his partner (Lingjia Tang, COO) and two of his (then) PhD. students (Michael Laurenzano, CTO and Johann Hauswald, Chief Architect).

Since 2015, Jason and team have grown the nimble startup to nearly 70 full-time employees, with offices in Ann Arbor (headquarters), San Francisco and London.

Clinc has deployments in 6 countries and 80 languages, and partnerships with some of the largest institutions in the world. With clients like Barclays, USAA and Isbank, Clinc’s groundbreaking technology is delivering new, extraordinary experiences for millions of users worldwide.

What is Conversational AI?

You have probably heard of artificial intelligence before. On a high level, it is the development of computers to perform tasks that would normally require human intelligence.

Conversational AI is simply voice-enabled AI used to personalize customer experiences at a large scale. Think of Amazon’s Alexa, Microsoft’s Cortana, or Apple’s Siri.

Instead of calling your bank and being left on hold for extended periods of time, AI is being used to simplify and enhance the customer’s contact with various enterprises. Clinc creates personalized solutions for these enterprises.

Applications of Conversational AI

Clinc’s Artificial Intelligence is seen in 4 major ways: Food Service, Automotive, Banking, and Contact Centers.

Food Service

“Decrease wait times, increase sales volume and elevate the overall quality of your food service experience with an AI that understands messy, unconstrained language.” Clinc implements these services through Drive Thru Ordering, Mobile Ordering & Pickups, Kiosk Ordering, and Menu Questioning.

Automotive

“Conversationally enable every aspect of your customers’ in-car experience, from the car manual to lane keep assist.” Cars used Automotive AI in Voice Enable ADSA Feature Control, Conversationally Enabled In-Car Manuals, and Voice Enabled Autonomous Driving.

Banking

“Clinc’s sophisticated AI understands complex financial questions and transforms them into powerful, actionable insights for your customers. Increase engagement across digital channels with a financial assistant capable of delivering powerful, multi-turn conversations rather than short, ineffective, one-sided interactions.” AI in banking particularly shines through in Spending Advice, Transfers, Paydays, Income, Balances, History, and Transactions.

Contact Center

“The current contact center experience is frustrating, time-consuming and lacks value for its users. Transform your call center offering to an AI that can deliver robust conversations capable of handling an unlimited number of turns, leading to increased customer satisfaction, reduced handle time, and tremendous cost savings.” Some examples are Updating Account Information, Resetting Passwords, Paying Bills, Finding Locations, and Reporting a Problem.

Clinc is recruiting students across all years and majors for full-time and summer internship positions. This includes their Ann Arbor and San Francisco Offices. For more information check out the event page below or contact michiganfintech@umich.edu
