STLNDRMS Just Reached 1 Million Streams on Spotify — Here’s a 19-Track Playlist
Atlanta-based producer STLNDRMS took an extended leave of absence from beatmaking in 2011 and almost walked away from music for good. “I got super depressed for a bit and was like, ‘Man, I don’t even want to do this no more,’” he told me in May of 2017 Micro-Chop interview. “I took a five year hiatus, worked a regular job and all of that. Just kind of pushed it to the left.”
Thankfully he decided to give it another go in 2016 and started building an online presence. Through careful cultivation of videos on Facebook, Instagram, and Periscope, as well as his weekly Controllerise live beats and anime event in Atlanta, STLNDRMS has built himself seen his fan base grow dramatically in a short amount of time.
In addition to keeping a remarkably consistent video posting schedule, he also releases material at breakneck speed, alternating between a slew of singles and full-length albums like his popular Veggie tacos and Veggie tacos 2 projects. As STLNDRMS has built up his presence on social media and artist-friendly platforms like Bandcamp, he also quickly found his footing on Spotify. Since making the decision to upload the majority of his catalog to the streaming platform in recent months, he has netted himself an impressive 1 million streams.
His story should give instrumental producers everywhere reason to celebrate. If you keep a consistent schedule and spread your work across multiple platforms like Bandcamp, SoundCloud, Spotify, and other streaming services, you will be amazed at how wide your reach can grow over time. It may take longer, it may take less time, but if you keep putting out material and building your audience, you’ll surprise yourself with the results. Now that STLNDRMS has cracked 1 million streams on Spotify, he will likely experience a whole new level of visibility on that platform and many others.
To celebrate his accomplishment, I put together a 19-track Spotify playlist of some of my favorite STLNDRMs tracks — with some additional help and suggestions from his fans. Whether this is your first time checking him out or you’ve been part of the #spreadlove gang since 2016, I hope you enjoy it and further explore his catalog.
