Maya hears the wind rattle through the stones. Even from her vantage point deep underground, she can feel the storm raging above. The bottom of the well is damp and narrow, and there’s something poking her in the back.

Crushed against her chest her legs are cramping and her lungs cannot fully expand. A small gash oozes from her forehead. How long can she make it down here?

She should have just stayed home after the dream.
