A home for flash fiction writers…

What is Microcosm?

Zane Dickens started the publication back in 2020, wanting to challenge writers. He saw the magazine as a place for stories that are a tiny window into a much larger world.

Zane Dickens the Instigator and Paul Mansfield built a thriving community of flash fiction writers who empowered each other to grow. However, due to life events affecting both editors, the publication was left slightly adrift.

I missed Microcosm. It had been one of my favourite magazines on the platform, so I was happy to join the team as chief cook and bottle washer.

The publication focus — on fostering creativity and mutual support among writers — will remain the same.

A microcosm is something small that speaks to a larger whole. A tiny world that epitomises a universal. We aim to inspire stories that may be small in word count but speak loudly to larger themes. Thought-provoking fiction that nudges toward action. Stories that are a tiny window…
