Fluorescence microscope is developed on the basis of general microscopy technology, but used to observe and analyze rock and oiliness characteristic. It takes use UV as illumination to excite asphalt in rock and get visible fluorescence image. That makes observer can exposure asphalt distribution in rock. All of this need a fluorescence microscope to realize.

  • Constructure of fluorescence microscope and its working principle
  • A. Main constructure
  • 1. Transmitted illumination system
Can separate to three parts of illumination, main body and lens,
  • Illumination
Contains of a. Quartz mercury light b.Aplanatic lens c. Excitation filter
  • Main body
Almost the same with biological microscope, have macromedia prisma, condenser, stage and etc.Advanced ones have polarizing device. 1nm=10×10-10
  • Lens
Lens are consist of objectives and eyepieces, generally with types of quartz and fluorite objective, glass lens, achromatic objective and etc.
  • Barrier filter
  • Barrier filter is used to protect observer’s eye, install a filter with wave length above 436nm, it almost absorb all ultraviolet of short wave less than 365nm.
  • B. Epi-illumination system
  • Its illumination system is the same with transmitted illumination system, but it directly install fluorescence generator on the base of microscope (as table 1-7b).
  • Fluorescence excited by UV from the surface of rock need epi-illumination system to observe. While light pitch float on the surface of rock, it’s better check rock slice, rock polishes surface, coal seam and etc.
  • C. Photo system
Photo system is an auxiliary system used to capture typical or representative information got under the fluorescence microscope. At present, most of the system is multifunctional, mainly contains electrical metering system, zoom lens, camera and control panel. Camera usually fixed on the tope of main body of microscope and through cable connection with control panel. It’s very convenience to operate.
