Is it luck o’ the technologists? Maybe, maybe not — but you are in luck with this entire lineup of features. This March, we’re taking the platform to a new level with advancements in app customization, data gateways, and augmented analytics. And this time, let’s get right into technology.

APPLICATIONS

We started development of the next generation of Applications in 2021. The mission was to create an App Editor that was simple, reusable, and integrated with the modern stack. And it is — allowing administrators and application architects to design and deploy personalized data experiences at astonishing speeds. Since then, we continue to add on advanced capabilities that make app configuration more impactful:

NOW LIVE — Define specific authentication modes

We’re kicking customization up a notch. Applications can now be configured with default authentication modes. This is a powerful addition to application design given the URL entry points provided for the different experiences of Library. Unique authentication enables different groups, tenants, and departments to login securely to view their individual apps within the same environment.

Select advanced color themes

Now that we have the apps locked down, we have to make them look good. Update the overall color theme of the application in Library Web. Choose specific colors and view automatic changes in the interface. Maintain brand standards or get creative.

Switch control types for the Transactional Grid

Transactional Grids in Dossier have an input “control switch.” The switch allows users to add or modify data within the grid. This feature allows the type of switch to be changed from a toggle to a checkbox style. Both of the styles support on/off/unset states for the data modification mode and on/off for the data insertion mode.

WORKSTATION

NOW LIVE — Evaluate content performance and user interactions with Client Telemetry

Developers and application architects can get an inside look into Dossier interaction patterns and total viewing times. This is critical to understand what specific aspects of content design have high levels of engagement, and which might need to be evaluated for an improved user experience.

Administrators also capitalize on this feature. Detect potential system bottlenecks that may not have been visible before, such as delayed client receive times or rendering times.

Seamlessly create Intelligence Cube Reports

Making the move from Developer to Workstation even smoother, users can now create Intelligent Cube Reports in Workstation. This is helpful in querying curated data easily with cubes versus directly executing against the data warehouse.

Edit SQL Transactions in Reports

Transactions are a fan favorite. And that’s why we continue to advance transaction workflows. Content authors can now manage SQL Transactions directly in Reports from Workstation. Drag-and-drop objects from the side panel to the SQL canvas or to the Transactions Editor with enhanced flexibility.

Get extended capabilities with the Python module for Subscriptions

We’ve expanded the Python module for Subscriptions to include all types of subscriptions. Now users can leverage this module to manage subscription types such as History List, FTP, and more.

Preview — Easily create Datamart objects

It’s a preview, but it’s powerful. Create new Datamart objects or convert existing Reports. And do it all from Workstation. Users will have access to the data preview feature for editing and the ability for simple write-back to tables when data is ready.

DATA GATEWAYS

Data Gateways. Next Level. The Product team is debuting an impressive suite of features to improve support and manageability across the board. Check out some of the advancements:

Convert to DSN-Less Data Sources with Workstation or Python

Administrators and architects can convert existing data sources to be DSN-less, moving all data source connectivity details to the MicroStrategy metadata, including certificates used for TLS communication.

View the new Gateways screen for more flexible management

The new Gateways management screen enables administrators to disable or enable specific gateways and drivers (JDBC or ODBC) for end users (based on enterprise policy). This is extremely helpful if, for instance, there was an industry-level security vulnerability (e.g., log4j in 2022). Administrators can now temporarily disable drivers that could be affected by vulnerabilities.

New data sources and optimized connectivity

With the March release, we’re introducing support for the following:

  • SQL Server 2022
  • PostgreSQL 15
  • Teradata VantageCloud Lake
  • Unity Catalog for Databricks
  • Palantir Foundry
  • Dremio

AUGMENTED

MicroStrategy Insights now available for mobile devices

The latest innovation from the product labs, MicroStrategy Insights fundamentally transforms how users interact with data. Designed with automatic alerts, Insights is powered by machine learning (ML) models to analyze data behind the scenes and surface key trends, outliers, or anomalies. Smart. Proactive. Actionable. And now available on Library Mobile iOS and Library Mobile Android.

EMBEDDED

Support for additional visualizations with the native embedding framework

Embedded is all about elevating contextual analytics. By integrating data into existing product workflows, organizations propel more deliberate and dynamic decision-making processes. The Embedded team has continued to improve the native embedding framework to ensure exceptional user experiences. Both Map (ESRI, Mapbox) and Custom visualizations are now supported.

To download the March release, you can go to the MicroStrategy Resource Center for on-prem deployments, or access MicroStrategy on AWS or Azure via the MicroStrategy Cloud Console. For the complete and detailed list of features, visit the What’s New section of the Readme page.

And how fast can you start to visualize the data? Top Dossier experts were challenged with this question in the last MicroStrategy Connect. Get into the world of Workstation for the answer.

With each release, we reveal incremental layers of functionality — continuously adding to the modern stack and closing the parity gaps in comparison to our legacy tools. When we take a step back and look at the work we’ve completed in the past few years, we’ve developed a stronger, more performant platform than ever before. It’s reimagined, it’s innovative, it’s complete. We don’t stop.

It’s one platform. Engineered for the future of analytics.
