If there’s one complaint we get the most it’s probably this one:

“I can’t see any tasks! Help!!!!”

On almost every occasion, this is a result of the app being unable to connect to your GPS, so we‘ve put together this post to help remove this annoying obstacle between you and your earning.

First thing: Why do we need your GPS in the first place?

Your GPS is important for a few reasons. Since we pay you for the photos you upload, we have to guarantee that you are the author of every photo. GPS provides us with an additional level of authentication.

Secondly, we often have location specific tasks that can only be completed in certain locations — perhaps a review of a store, or a task to take photos from a specific event — having GPS enabled allows us to deliver these tasks to the right people.

What stops GPS from working?

Unfortunately, there is no one solution that will guarantee a fix. Your GPS settings are external to the Microwork App, so there are lots of factors to take into account.

Here’s our troubleshooting guide to help you resolve any GPS issues you’re facing. Between each fix make sure the app is closed entirely and reopened again to ensure the fix is recognised:

  1. Have you given Microwork permission to access your GPS?
If not, go to your phone settings, select permissions and make sure you’ve enabled Microwork access to your phone location.
  2. Do you have GPS switched on?
Sounds simple, but maybe GPS is switched off for your entire device. Usually you can toggle GPS on/off in Android’s quick access dropdown menu or visit your device’s settings.
  3. Have you got the latest version of the app?
Occasionally there may be certain updates that prevent older versions of the app from functioning correctly. Updating the app will ensure you have the latest release and features.
  4. Have you got the latest version of Google Play Services?
You might not realise it, but many of the apps you have on your Android phone utilise Google Play Services for some of their features. Things like location, maps, games and in-app adverts all require GPS to work. Just search Google Play Services in the Play Store and check you’ve got the latest version.
  5. Is power-saving mode enabled?
Power-saving mode is a lifesaver when you’ve forgotten your charger, but it could also be the culprit behind your GPS issues. By stopping any non-essential processes (such as GPS) it can cause significant interruptions on apps where these processes are essential.
  6. Toggle Airplane Mode
Sometimes an action as simple as resetting all connections can get your GPS functioning again. If this doesn’t work, restarting your device entirely can also help reboot your GPS and help fix any errors that may have occurred.
  7. Have you got the latest version of your Operating System?
Operating systems are updated all the time to make sure they have the latest features and security updates. Sometimes, the GPS issue can be caused by something as simple as a misalignment between our app and your mobile’s operating system. Make sure you’ve got the up to date version of both to prevent this from happening.

The list above is usually a good place to begin in order to resolve a majority of GPS issues experienced on Microwork. If your problem still persists, please feel free to write to us with your phone details in order for us to investigate further.

One more thing, Technobezz also get even more ‘techy’ in this blog post they wrote — feel free to consult that for some additional fixes to try.
