All eyes on Iowa as our state’s voters prepare to play their most significant role ever in this important presidential election year! Every four years this unassuming, fly-over state transforms into a political mecca for national media, presidential candidates, and avid politicos. Des Moines, the capital, has hosted everything from national debates to candidate fundraisers, and on Thursday the Republicans took the stage at the Iowa Events Center.

As if the stakes for the Iowa vote weren’t high enough, Donald Trump raised tension by boldly proclaiming he would boycott the debate. He instead hosted a rally just minutes away at Drake University’s Sheslow Auditorium where he filled the room to capacity. The rally raised $6 million to be distributed to veterans organizations.

Sitting in the audience at the debate offered insight into the unique Iowa experience. While most voters watched the candidates from their couches, we were able to see every jab, question, and counter argument live and feel the excitement of the moment! It was a great event to showcase Iowa in the final days leading up to our important caucus. This state’s first in the nation status is crucial for presidential hopefuls, and events like the debate are one of the last opportunities for candidates to make their case for the caucus vote.
