It’s Super Tuesday, and liberals are voting…for Rubio

Happy Super Tuesday! The biggest day in politics leading up to the presidential election. Today, voters in twelve states and one territory will make their pick for their respective party’s presidential nominee.

This year’s presidential primary seems to be down to two powerhouses: political insider Hillary Clinton and never-even-run-for-office Donald Trump.

Which is frankly ticking a lot of people off.

First, you have the Republicans who hate Hillary to the core. Then you have the countless other Americans who hate Donald even more.

Just to show you how much people hate The Donald, liberals are apparently showing up to the polls…to vote for Rubio.

Yesterday, the Atlantic published an editorial from Peter Beinart (contributing editor to both The Atlantic and the National Journal) titled Why Liberals Should Vote for Marco Rubio.

This guy clearly identifies as a liberal himself, starting off with saying that Rubio would make a ‘terrible president.’

That said, he can’t be worse than Donald Trump, Beinart cliams —and tells his readers he would cross over to vote Republican if he was living in a Super Tuesday state. And the rest of you liberals should do the same!

He says that Rubio is better than Trump in that he respects the Constitution and the Bill of Rights — Trump doesn’t. Trump is exploiting public opinion and appealing to the public’s “most hateful and bloodthirsty desires” labeling it as political correctness.

Beinart says that nominating Trump will fundamentaly change American politics — and change does not always mean progress.

He ends with this:

“Liberals should try to forestall it by backing Marco Rubio. And if we fail, we should implore conservatives to help stop Trump by backing Hillary Clinton. Although the polarization in American politics today is vast, there are still norms that both decent liberals and decent conservatives cherish, and do not wish to see smashed. Across the ideological divide, it’s time to close ranks.”

Ok, well that didn’t have me too convinced. Then I saw this headline from the Washington Post.

Hmmm… This intrigues me.

The story begins with this: Rubio tells voters he is the one conservative that Hillary doesn’t want to run against, and many Democrats agree.

Democrats are coming out of the woodwork to vote Rubio ‘in the hopes of embarrassing Trump.’

First: HuffPost columnist Jason Linkins posted on Facebook saying he voted Rubio in Virginia, doing his part in ‘holding down the white supremacist loon’s delegate count in the Commonwealth.’

Caroline, 32-year old voter in Virginia, said she voted Rubio because she didn’t want to miss the opportunity to vote against Trump. She said ensuring Trump is less likely to get the Republican nomination is something Democrats can and should do.

Then there’s Tom from Massachusetts, voting Trump today but hoping Republicans will end up rallying behind the establishment choice.

Stephen, from Virginia, said he cast a ‘strategic’ vote for Rubio:

“Trump is so completely awful and unqualified that his election would substantially damage the country for a long time,” he said. “He’s not Hitler, exactly, but he’s easily a potential tinpot dictator. If Rubio is elected I’ll gag and oppose just about everything he does, but that’s standard democracy — he’ll adequately represent the views of a normal party. He’ll appoint normal, competent people from the Republican pool. Trump appointees would be people on the order of Sarah Palin, Joe Arpaio, and his lawyer who made the marital rape gaffe.”

And here is Stephen’s “calculation” on why he voted Rubio:

Another twist to this year’s unpredictable presidential primary. While pundits are scratching their heads wondering how it is possible that Trump will take home the conservative crown, establishment Republicans are resigning themselves to the fact that Trump is their shot at the White House.

No matter how many liberals show up to the polls today to vote for Rubio or otherwise, it’s looking like we can expect Trump and Clinton taking home their cakes in today’s Super Tuesday primaries. And we can expect a Trump versus Clinton match-up come November…so fasten your seatbelts. It’s going to be a wild ride.
