The Trump Rally Heard Round the Des Moines

No one expected Donald Trump to be on time at his own event, so here are some observations I have while I wait….

1. Not a big crowd

I know in past rallies Trump has brought in the thousands, but tonight in Iowa that is not the case. I would estimate that there are less than 900 Iowans in the room tonight — including media.

2. Actual Trump Supporters? Eh

While there are quite a few diehard Trumpers in the crowd, I would argue that a good amount of the attendees were just here to watch the show unfold. Large interest groups are also present pushing for their issues.

3. Trump gear/other observations

I’ve seen only:

• 3 “Make America Great Again” hats
• 40 “Trump 2016" shirts
• 50 Secret Service Staff
• 1 former member of the Apprentice

4. Bad playlist

I have heard the same Adele song 4 times now….
