Why I Am Supporting Marco Rubio for President

We all know Iowa plays a critical role in the race for the White House as we are the first in the nation Presidential contest. Iowans set the stage for the primaries and caucuses that follow. As Iowans we take pride in this honor and take it very seriously. My advice is when a candidate comes to our area take the opportunity to attend and ask questions. One of these candidates will be our next President.

That being said, many of you have asked me recently if I will be endorsing a candidate before the Iowa Caucuses. The answer to this is yes, I have decided to endorse before the Iowa Caucus this time around. I have had the opportunity to visit with many of those seeking this office as they travel throughout our great state, and we are blessed as a nation to have so many great leaders wanting to serve our country in this important capacity. I am honored to have had a chance to visit with many of them and this was a decision I did not take lightly. This is the first time as your councilwoman that I will publicly endorse a candidate for President because too much is at stake to sit on the sidelines. We face for the first time leaving the next generation with fewer opportunities then we have had.

As a member of the millennial generation, the largest generation currently in the American workforce, I feel we have been the generation most impacted by the economic policies of the current administration. We have seen many of our friends underemployed and not making use out of the degree in which they went to school for while culminating a large student loan debt. Some of you have seen your hours cut at work so your employer can avoid the employer mandate of the “Affordable Care Act” — or as I like to call it the Unaffordable Care Act. Some of you have seen your favorite restaurant or shop closed due to the health care mandates. Sadly we have seen more businesses close then open since President Obama took office.

Like many of you I have also seen my friends sign up to serve in the Armed Forces some who have served in Iraq, Afghanistan, or Kuwait. I have seen those very friends angry and hurt as they see the very villages they helped liberate, overtaken by Isis while the Obama administration negotiates with our enemies and isolates our allies. We have seen this recently with the announcement of the opening of the Cuban Embassy and the announcement of the treaty with Iran.

We need a President who will stand strong in defense of America and its allies. We need a leader who will stand with Israel and demand Iran to acknowledge their right to exist. We need a leader who will not appease but will lead.

We need a leader who will reduce the burden of regulations on small businesses which are the backbone of any community. We need a President that will work with congress to support job creation bills not job killer bills. We have seen what leadership is like in the State of Iowa, 3.8 percent unemployment rate and billions in economic development, and a healthy cash reserve. We need a leader who will do the same in Washington. America needs a president that believes our greatest days are ahead of us not behind us. It is time for new generational leadership that will unite our country that too long has been divided.

That is why after careful consideration and visits with a number of the candidates, I am proud to announce that I will be endorsing Senator Marco Rubio for President. He has proven leadership experience that is unique for someone only 44 years old. He has held office at every level of government — Local, State, and National. At every level he quickly welcomed and took on the tough issues and rose to leadership roles as a result. He became speaker of the Florida House of Representatives at 35 and was elected to the United States Senate at 38 The Senator has received an A rating from the NRA and a 100 percent rating from Americans for Prosperity, and National Right to Life. That is an impressive scorecard that he has earned by proving himself along the way. I was impressed most with the fact that he comes from middle class background and not one of privilege. His mother was a maid and cashier and his father was a bartender. They worked hard to provide the American Dream for him and his siblings, and he is running to preserve that dream for the next generation. He believes the best days are truly ahead of us and with the right president and innovative ideas the 21st century will be the “New American Century”. I believe Senator Rubio is the right person to lead us and to achieve those innovative goals. I am proud to support his candidacy and hope you will consider him too.
