Do you remember when you were a child and you said to yourself, “I can’t wait until I grow up”?
I remember saying this to myself when I was a little girl and thinking how great my life would be. Then, when I reached my 20s, I regretted that statement immediately. In my 20s, getting older meant more responsibility, demands, and time trying to survive this world in the best way possible.
For a while, I thought this was what getting older would be like forever, but aging has redefined itself in a new way.
In American culture, it’s taboo for women to speak about aging or wanting to age. In the early 2000s, American society still held restrictive views on women, which were heavily influenced by patriarchal ideology. Women were largely valued for their youth and beauty, and once they passed childbearing age, their acceptance and worth diminished.
