After Black Friday and Cyber Monday comes Giving Tuesday.

Last, but far from least. While I’ve heard of it, it’s not burned into my consciousness the way Black Friday and Cyber Monday are. No surprise the retail days are more well known. They’ve been around longer, too.

So what is Giving Tuesday?

I mean besides the obvious. How did it start?

According to Wikipedia, which has more of the history than Giving Tuesday’s official website:

GivingTuesday, often stylized as #GivingTuesday for the purposes of hashtag activism, is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the United States.

It is touted as a “global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world”. The organization of the same name is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports the global movement.
