AI–Friend or Foe?
Or perhaps a mixed blessing
You’ve seen the posts.
Ranging in scope from how to use AI (Artificial intelligence) for this or that all the way to warning us about how AI will take over the world and wreak havoc we can’t even imagine.
So maybe you fall somewhere in the middle.
You’ve found it helpful for spell checks. Anyone who uses Grammarly before posting is using AI. So yes, most of us use it at least minimally.
Or maybe you’ve asked Chatgpt.com to read a post and make suggestions. Or outline it for you so it flows logically. Something I probably should do more often. And finally, how many of us ask it for title ideas? Even if we never use one as is. We might mix and match, taking a word or phrase from two or more suggestions.
Of course, we all know Medium has an explicit policy on posts written by AI, limiting distribution and boost eligibility. But that doesn’t mean we can’t utilize it to organize our thoughts or edit a rough draft.
Some folks swear they can recognize an AI post at first glance. I’m not one of them. But there are AI checkers that we use here at Middle-Pause to double-check any that we suspect are AI-written.
