Countdown to 2024, the Last Year of Generation Alpha
Celebrating with seven generations living on Earth together
I am addicted to demographics. It was part of my job as a grant writer, and I can’t kick it. The demographic that has my head spinning right now is that 2024 will be the concluding year for Generation Alpha (2010–2024). As you can guess the newest generation will follow the next letter in the Greek alphabet, Generation Beta (2025–2039).
We also have crossed the 8,000,000,000 population mark this last day of the year. At 2:30 PM PST December 31, 2023, the world now has 8,082,361,500 Homo sapiens sapiens. By the time I finish the article there will be six thousand more people added to the population.
This is all new to us on Earth, that seven generations are living on the planet at the same time. As an older person, I am happy that I had so much time with my parents who died at the ages of 87 and 90. Neither one of them would have ever predicted they would live that long. My father was in the Greatest Generation (1901–1927) and my mother was in the Silent Generation (1928–1945).
Currently we have less than 500,000 individuals from the Greatest Generation, and 18,000,000 Silent Generation. A high percentage of families in the US today are celebrating the holidays with four generations…
