Did You Know Cervical Cancer Skyrockets in Women Over 60?

A silent killer is stalking older women! This insidious assassin strikes women over 60 with alarming stealth. By the time symptoms appear, cervical cancer will have spread to other parts of a woman’s body.

While researching Cervical Awareness Month, I discovered that even though cervical cancer is preventable, many women older than 60 will see increased rates over the next 20 years. Why?

Let’s look at prevalence, treatments, and prevention to understand the modus operandi of this disease.

How do women get cervical cancer?

According to the American Cancer Society:

About 13,960 new cases of invasive cervical cancer will be diagnosed.

About 4,310 women will die from cervical cancer.

In the past, cervical cancer was one of women’s most common causes of cancer death. This was before the pap test screenings. Since then, death rates have decreased drastically.

One way women get this cervical cancer is through the Human papillomavirus (HPV). Almost 42 million people are infected with this virus, including 13 million teens. It is…
