A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life — Coco Chanel

“I’m never gonna cut my hair!” I told my mother.

“Okay. Look at your Aunt Cora. She could pass for a witch with her long, stringy, gray hair!” she said.

When I was younger, I vowed to not cut my hair — ever. I had long, dark, thick, curly locks. I believed my hair was my best feature.

Until I turned 50.

I had been fighting gray for about 10 years. Most of the time, I dyed my hair from dark brown to jet black. One time I tried mahogany, but that didn’t work out.

Then I remembered another saying from my mother:

“As you age, you must cut your hair and go lighter.” — Bonnie Massey

I’ll give it a try!

Faded

Before dyeing, I had to decide on the type of cut I wanted. I told my hairdresser to give me a short style similar to a high-top fade. This cut is long on the top and short on the sides and back.

I didn’t go very long on top, just enough to spike it up. Kinda like Bart Simpson. My long head was perfect for this type of haircut.
